Made decision between All Season or Winter tyres
In recent weeks there have been some threads regarding Winter tyres and also some debate on All Season tyres.
I thought I would update with my decision.
I had thought about the Maxxis AP2 and Nokian Wearherproof.
After thinking about it and considering the value of the Berlingo I went for a budget tyre.
Nexen Winguard Snow G WH2
My reasoning is that this is also a new tyre model to the market being a development I suspect of the older Winguard Snow.
Online reviews that I have found were positive.
And the EU specs where B for wet braking though only an E for fuel economy and 70db for noise, being fitted to a petrol Berlingo neither of the last two bothers me unduly.
£32 a corner from Oponeo.
So significantly cheaper than All Seasons that so had been considering.
Perhaps if the tyres were going on a more powerful and expensive vehicle I would have bought more expensive tyres.
I shall of course update with what I think of them.

I see from the reviews a friend of yours has fitted them too.
"Fitted to my 2012 A3 2.0 tsi s line. Transforms the car into almost 4 x4 capability. Without these tyres the 2 wheel drive A3 is an embarrassment at the slightest sniff of slush or snow. For the money i cannot complement them enough. Fit them in Nov remove them in March for last 3 yeArs with no appreciable wear at 4000 miles"
And also to his A6, BMW and Mustang.0 -
Good timing. Now what is the temperature outside today

Hate to point out that it wasn't cold enough to warrant Winter tyres till a week ago in London.
But AccuWeather has temperatures hardly hitting 10degrees for the next few weeks, fell free to wander about in a pair of shorts and a tea shirt if you want though. Because in you mind it is nearly summer isn't it?
What was your actual contribution to the thread again?
Other than trying to be a smart alec and failing miserably
And have you ever thought that perhaps people might drive their car into areas of Europe where the fitment of M&S tyres is mandatory?
Thought not.0 -
If i thought i'd get use out of them i'd definitely fit them. They do make a difference.
However i work from home and my wife "could" work from home if the weather was bad so we just hole up for a few days if the weather gets bad here - and it tends to just be a few days a year.
Granted wet braking is probably better, but i've never had enough issue to be concerned enough to change to winter tyres based on cold wet weather alone.
I appreciate people in other parts of the country have different experiences based on their weather though.0 -

Thought not.
Have you picked up a cab fare to Eastern Europe or are you off to drive an ambulance in Poland?
Thought not, you'll just be pottering around Essex. It was 10.5 degrees yesterday morning and no one was falling off the road because they didn't have your budget winte tyres fitted.0 -
Clearly a touchy subject for you.Hate to point out that it wasn't cold enough to warrant Winter tyres till a week ago in London.

there's tyres and there's M&S tyres.0

there's tyres and there's M&S tyres.
Quite true
They do have the Snowflake/mountain symbol.
For the cost involved I was happy to give them a try.
Would love to stick a set of Michelin Alpins A3s but they are £22 more a corner. But they are E for economy, C for wet braking and 71db for noise. Considering the car cost £1000 then spending an extra £88 makes no financial sense to me.
And I personally think the Nexens will be better than a set of summer tyres for the next few months.0 -

The car had a mismatched set of tyres when bought.
So it was going to get a set of four regardless.
As I said I had thought about going All Season but the reviews of the Nexen tyre was decent.
The car is used a lot first thing in the morning and late in the evening.0
