Thought not, you'll just be pottering around Essex. It was 10.5 degrees yesterday morning and no one was falling off the road because they didn't have your budget winte tyres fitted.

I have Michelin Crossclimate (A wet grip / C fuel economy) on my Subaru and Nokian WR D4 (B wet grip / C fuel economy) on my VW. Both are amazing.0

Have heard good things about the Cross Climate would be on my list if I had a more valuable car, which I won't have for at least another 6 months.
They aren't available in the size I need at the moment.
Nokian have always been a top brand for winter and all season tyres.0 -
Nokians i've had haven't had great wet grip unless it turns very cold, and that is the same for a few of the winters tyres i've used.
Exception was Vredestein Wintrac which stuck like the proverbial regardless of temperature, but had so so wet grip ratings.
I've come to the conclusion that self awarded grip ratings of tyres are about as realistic as published fuel economy figures in the real world.0 -
Just because you buy a car doesn't mean you have to keep it forever. Why would I keep a Jag XJL when I no longer intended to use it for work?
It was a tool just like any other work tool, when it was no longer needed it was outed.

I was led to believe that the ratings for tyres used to be done by the tyre manufacturers but are now done by the EU.
Having only used Goodyear UltraGrip 8 and Michelin Alpin A3 winters I can't comment on the Nokians, they always fare well in road tests.
Though as these tests seem to often be done in heavy snow and really cold temperatures perhaps they are showing the strengths of Nokians rather than over all ability?
My Nexens will be on the car by the end of the week and I shall update with my impressions.
Will be interesting to see how they behave and also what drivel BykerSands comes up with to bore everybody.0 -
New tyres have been on for two days now, done just shy of 100miles.
They are obviously a huge improvement over the mixed tyres that were in there.
Quiet at speeds up to 60mph, haven't been further than Lakeside, comfortable round town on the local roads.
For the cost I think they are a decent tyre.
They will likely not last as long as a Michelin Alpin or other premium tyre but I am more than happy with the value for money they represent.0 -
In what way are they a huge improvement?0

In every way.
Not hard considering the car had four mismatched tyres when I bought it.0 -

4 brand new tyres are always going to feel better on a car than 4 worn or partly worn tyres.
For someone who comes across having extensive knowledge on vehicles or at least has a comment to make on nearly every thread in the motoring section, do you think 2 days is enough to come to your decision?
So far you haven't driven with them in any extreme conditions, so maybe a bit too early to tell.0
