If we vote for Brexit what happens

I think that people will take this personally. This is a momentous decision (one that has profound consequences) that many who voted for it have absolutely no idea of the implications of their actions. I am sure you did but you are not the norm.
We are a deeply divided nation and saying that can be cured by a "nice chat" might help Yolina, but I can understand how someone who has chosen to live in the country for many years would be unhappy.
Six months ago the idea that I would soon be applying for an Irish Passport and planning to move to Ireland never occurred to me.
Whilst everyone can make their own decision I feel that perhaps if you have lived and worked in a country for 27 years and have no plans to leave you should think about taking nationality of that country rather than keeping 'one foot out the door' by retaining another nationality?I think....0 -
Especially with the way the £ is going... a wheelbarrow worth of £50s should do it
With that weak pound though I had better pick you up in a car made in the UK like a Range Rover rather than a Peugeot 106, hope you don't mind?

But there never was a particularly good reason to do so, there's paperwork and it costs money... It's not a question of foot out of the door.
To be honest if I had to choose right now this instant, I'd rather leave than become a British Citizen. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I can not see that having a single market requires freedom of movement, I would have thought tax harmonisation which is not in place would be more important. Free movement seems to be all about the politics of ever closer union (=US of E). If the EU really wanted to allow different speeds for different members then it could have compromised on free movement.
That may still happen. It would depend on how deep Brexit rocked the institutions and how it impressed upon the political systems of the remaining 27 members.
i.e. if there's a swell of support in Frexit, Nexit, Italeave, Swexit, Dexit, etc... and there's been reports of "joy" at the Brexit result in these countries then there may be a mandate to dismantle all the crap bits of the EU people complain about and move to something approaching EU-lite. If we've not pressed the red button, or perhaps if we're not past the 2 year period it may be possible to salvage something reasonable from the relationship.0 -
Ah that's an interesting point - wondering if that could explain what Rinoa pointed out a few post back about the UK seemingly not being invited to the next informal meeting? A "you might as well hand in your notice or we'll keep charging you but without invites to meetings" kinda thing.
Possibly. Article 50 is about the 27 managing its engagement with the Member Giving notice.
If you are interested, this gives an explanation of the issues. It is partly about the Euro but also covers leaving the EU.

why do you wish harm to your fellow citizens and rejoice in the (supposed) good fortune of the Chinese.
is that your normal response after a election in which your side loses?
Plenty of people who are short property wish harm to those who are long. They can have some of it back,
I don't have a side; I didn't vote.0 -

Interesting isn't it. When the UK couldn't keep the pound in the ERM we were left to sink. When France couldn't keep the Franc in the ERM they rewrote the rules to prevent it's collapse and burn the speculators. And now you are suggesting that if others want to leave as well then perhaps the rules might change in a way that they wouldn't for the UK.....I think....0 -
I hope you are not saying you are only on this date because I am paying you

Ts'okay, I made a few ££ overnight with some careful fx timingRange Rover? Pfffff Can you not go for an Aston or, even better still a Healey Sprite?

I guess it depends, if you see yourself as a European living in one of the counties of the United States of Europe then it doesn't matter. If you still think in terms of countries then it makes sense to fully commit to whichever country you have decided to make your home in.
AS you know I am unusual in supporting brexit not to control immigration but because I see Europe as being pretty insular and protectionist and want to be a citizen of the whole world not shut behind the walls of a mostly white christian europe being fearful of the rest of the world where they look different and worship different gods.I think....0 -

Well it would appear that any change, if it were to happen, took the courage of one member to make a stand. They were all "no, no, no" and "that's it, out is out". Yet when the contagion started to rear its head earlier today there was a lot of talk about reform from some big hitters - some the biggest of hitters in the EU, and clearly there's some anti-EU element in the EU parliament even without the UK MEP's which could be seen during interviews that took place today.
It may transpire that Cameron actually becomes a martyr for the most radical EU reform. Clearly I'm massively speculating, but right now pretty much anything can happen, we've not even issued article 50.0
