Just seem Daniel Hannon interviewed on Newsnight. He apparently supports the idea of retaining some hind of Freedom of Movement for Labour, provided it is separated from citizen rights within a Free Trade Agreement.

What on earth has this this Referendum been about then?
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

That is exactly what I've been saying. The leave vote actually have no idea what they were voting for because their campaign leaders would not tell them. It has all been a complete lie. We still have no idea. We could end up rejoining the free trade area, still have free movement, still pay in to the system and not have a vote on any of the issues. This is on the table because there was no plan from the leave campaign.

But as I said previously, people probably wouldn't even notice, as they'd have "taken back control".

So in other words, he wants some sort of negotiation with the EU to ensure that people who have been in the UK for less than a few years do not have the same rights that workers who have been paying into the system for their whole lives have?

Have I heard that argument before somewhere...?

Whilst everyone can make their own decision I feel that perhaps if you have lived and worked in a country for 27 years and have no plans to leave you should think about taking nationality of that country rather than keeping 'one foot out the door' by retaining another nationality?

Why? The point you miss here is that a lot of us who supported remain like a more open and accessible world. I don't see a patriotic duty to tie myself to a single country or nationality. I am a citizen of earth and I want the ability to go where the work is, as the free market should work. Nationalism is an old fashioned notion and will gradual die out. It'll probably be replaced with some other ism though, such is human nature :(

that would be the worst outcome by far but its not impossible at this stage to rule it out, it might not only be that bad but WORSE if the thatcher rebate might be gone too, the Germans and the french apparently hated that deal and thought thatcher got far too much.

so everything might stay the same, plus the uk gets no vote, plus the bill goes from ~£10B net to ~£15B net.

Again, you resort to putting words in my mouth. Your arguments are sometimes convincing and I even think that you are reasonable, but why do you resort to this?

nobody is thick or smart it was a vote into the dark.

leave won very marginally but what if the end result is a deal whereby the UK retains free trade in Europe and free movement of people plus pays a £10B membership fee. is that what you where thinking when you put your X on leave?

If that is what happens the referendum was on

A: Do we want to stay part of this EU and have MEPs who can vote
B: Do we want to stay part of this EU and not have MEPs who can vote

Hmm - not so much patriotism as more a sense of belonging in your street or town, not the feeling that you will push off somewhere else if there is a recession or there are lower taxes elsewhere or you get fed up with the weather.....
    I think....
