I'm not going to bother to find your post damning the people of UK because they had the cheek to have a democratic vote on their own future; but if you have had a change of heart and now wish us well for whatever the future brings, I will graciously accept your good wishes.
I do wish all the people of the UK well for the future, except you that is - I don't wish you ill either, I just plain don't careNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I can see your point, but if you tell someone you no longer want to play with them, why would they bother to invite you to their next playdate? You don't want anything to do with them, right?
maybe because we are still a member of the club and because we are still paying our subs?
I guess they could choose to refuse any further payments.0 -

We're in a club. We PAY good money to be in it. We haven't given any formal notification of our wishes to leave.
Holding a meeting without us is maybe jumping the gun? They'll still want our monthly subscription I suppose.
It's no wonder countries are queuing up to leave.;)If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
I've heard various Remain people today say the following, all with equal vehemence:
- The Leave camp are a bunch of little englanders for not wanting to be part of a forward-thinking & progressive organization like the EU.
- Now we've voted Leave the EU will punish us with high tariffs in order to ensure no other countries leave.
- We are now at a heightened terrorism risk as the EU will not share info with us.
So which is it Remain-ers? Is the EU an inclusive, progressive, wonderful institution? Or a vindictive collective prepared to bankrupt or even allow terrorism to take place anywhere that isn't a member? As you seem to be saying it's both....0 -
Can someone please explain to me (in simple terms please as I'm obviously one of them dumb foreigners) why it seems that the UK is trying to delay kickstarting the Article 50 process?
Its tactical, the TofEU does not provide a mechanism for the EU to annul the marriage of a party, just a mechanism of negotiating a divorce with a party who asked for a divorce (Article 50). As a member we can choose when to invoke Article 50.
When we do the EU can set the agenda and timescales for that divorce. Until we do the EU has to accept our posturing.
The fact is nobody expected this decision, until quite recently. Now we have to work out what to do.
Personally I am very sad. Sad that we are leaving the EU, Sad that the UK is about to break up.
Sad that the galactically stupid have done this to me, that my generation has inflicted this on the younger generations.
Democracy is wonderful, I have to accept it, but i cannot say I like it.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Per the Indie, a petition has already been started to call a second referendum as the result was so close:

Is there a time limit to invoke Article 50? Otherwise this mess could go on for years before they even start negotiating. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -

If you're looking to apportion blame & accusations of galactic stupidity, rather than aim at the 17 million + people who voted to Leave, you might want to consider looking in the direction of those who run the EU. It was their insistence on ever closer union and ever greater power for Brussels, something that the vast majority of us have never even had a chance to vote on, that led to a referendum vote. And it was their total refusal to even cede a fraction of that power back to the UK when Cameron went begging, that led directly to where we are now.
They were indeed, galactically stupid. And now they'll have to face the consequences. And those will be far more than simply the UK quitting the EU.0 -

The Treaty presumes that the Member State continues to be a member until they invoke Article 50. In theory it could go on like you say but I doubt it would do so since it would not be in anyone's interests that it should.
Article 50 is just a statement of principle, that authorises the EU to respond to an application to withdraw. if a member chooses not to follow it then it would probably annoy the EU but provided the UK met its obligations they would not be able to do anything about it.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
