give me an example where you have voted for your MEP and a piece of EU legislation has been changed as a result.

My MEP has exactly as much say as any other MEP and is involved in change.

What change do you expect to get out of the EU if:
    1. You have someone like Farage failing to attend or pay attention?
    2. You take your ball and go home.

You're complaining about not having your say in the EU when we're electing people that aren't passing it on, and advocating having no say at all. And as said, it's exactly the same as in the UK.

Why? I was under the impression that the victorious candidate was also opposed to expansion.

Nobody has done more than Zach to oppose Heathrow expansion - I'm sad to see him treated this way. And I doubt Sarah Olney will be as effective. West London has lost a champion today. I hope he boots her out in 2020.

    Good.

It must feel great to be on the side of The Rich, Global Elite like those who live in Richmond Park giving a bloody nose to ordinary people everywhere.

If you feel that your own concerns are well discussed and dealt with appropriately by the EU parliament and system then vote to stay.
I feel there is a huge disconnect between my concerns and reform /change in Europe which is why I vote to leave.

Chuka today urged Remain campaigners to abandon calls for a second referendum or risk being seen as a metropolitan elite “who think they know best”. In an interview with the Evening Standard, the influential Labour backbencher urged fellow pro-EU campaigners to show more respect for the 17 million who voted for Brexit.

I must say, I'm deeply disappointed with my Richmond neighbours - the idea that they put the EU before the state of the air quality and noise levels in west London is deeply depressing.

Indeed. I hope the government see this as a green light to send more planes over Richmond and less over Ealing. It will serve them right.

Yes, me too – and I'm sorry to say I live in the Richmond Park constituency. The LD candidate (whoever she is and whatever she stands for, beyond overturning the democratic Brexit vote) said she was opposed to Heathrow expansion in order to win votes, but it's virtually guaranteed that the LDs will do nothing about this, especially given that her husband was once apparently employed by Heathrow. Zac has always had a passion for the environment and would have fought against the expansion tooth and nail. Now, with the expansion going ahead, we the constituents are all going to be poisoned by ever-increasing traffic and plane pollution, and horrendous noise.

The LD put everything into this by-election in order to try and make themselves relevant. My area was simply infested with gangs of these people who had obviously been bussed in from outside (even including baby boomer Bob Geldolf, who looked like an old tramp), and the party probably spent as much money as it would have done for a general election. Against such propaganda, an independent MP, no matter how good (and I know he was excellent and hardworking, from experience), had little chance of winning.

I deeply regret that Zac was not re-elected, but on the head of the (very small) majority it will be (though perhaps we may have a rerun of the vote, given that I didn't know what I was voting for in the LDs). Perhaps the result was what I should have expected, given that Richmond Park is (currently) one of the wealthiest constituencies in the country, so naturally many people there have a vested interest in staying in the EU. If I could move, I would (preferably out of the UK and European countries altogether), but I have family in London so unfortunately it's not possible.:(

West London has lost a champion for bigots and Islamophobes yes. Let's never forget his utterly shameful mayoral campaign. Good riddance!

Agree with all that. Just don't know how voters could have put the EU above Heathrow expansion...

!!!!ing hate Bob Geldof especially as 1) He's Irish and 2) He lives in Paris.

Globalisation doesn't work. The larger it has become. The more out of touch it has become with the people.
