    Agreed.
I have heard, rumour or is it true.
Farage was on the Fisheries committee ( you know that committee that sorted out fishing quotas) and only ATTENDED ONE meeting.
Is that true. I hope that one of the many Farage supporters on this thread will tell me the truth.
    Thanks.

It's probably true. People bring this up a lot so I ask them what does this committee actually do? No one seems to know.

A quick google and it turns out the quotas are set by the commission and not by the committee of MEPs.

Agree completely. I actually thought he (yes I know he is a politician) had principles.

I think so, he really fought for his constituents for years, stuck to his word, and he's lost his seat over it. He could've done a Corbyn and 'changed his mind' over Brexit, but he stuck to his guns.

Swapping him for someone with no track record, who had zero involvement in politics 18 months go with no influence seems daft to me, but that's democracy for you.

    By way of an illustration

Let us suppose that there was a general all party consensus that payments to the agricultural sector should reflect the need to prevent flooding by planting more trees, making water meadows or whatever.
I take no particular view on the 'optimal' solution but lets say we wanted to adopt the best scientific view on the matter.

Under the EU system, the UK could not redirect CAP money to achieve this without EU permission.

My view is that if we were sovereign such changes could be agreed with reasonably short timescales whereas currently within the EU it would take years and maybe never be agreed.

We don't even seem capable of deciding on and implementing an extra runway at Heathrow, 16 years and counting.
I have no faith in politicians doing anything in an efficient manner, whether they are a EU sponger or a Westminster sponger.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

clearly the 4 freedoms are negotiable unless the EU is going to invade us and prevent us leaving that way.
the issue is what sort of arrangement can be agreed and how much damage the EU elite are willing to do to the people of the EU27.

but, yes we do know that the EU27 WANT but thats isn't always what you get.

I am amazed that anyone thinks the EU27 have a consistent position.

The legal framework is non negotiable. That's the issue.

The people of Richmond have issued a vicious spanking to the Tories today.

Across the nation UKIP Brexi-bullies are shuffling nervously as the silent majority, appalled at the ugly taste their right wing campaign is leaving in decent people's mouths, prepares to give them a bloody nose.

    Good.

but the Tories were not standing.

Good to talk to you and good to know that some in Richmond feel the same as some of us in Ealing. Maybe the 3rd runway will never happen - Willie Walsh has always said so.....

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to post.

    Regards.

The third runway at Heathrow did exist for many years. It's now twy M and V. Runway 05/23 closed permanently in 2002.

I am happy to share your delight in Zak's defeat through the ballot box

I've been here since 2006. Is this the first time you and Hamish have agreed about something?

I actually feel a bit sorry for Zac, as he resigned on principal instead of backtracking, to lose his seat to a LD.

As a LD and Remain Campaigner though, I don't feel sorry for him at all.
