QUESTION.
Labour keep saying they demand access to the Single Market guaranteed prior to agreeing to trigger Article 50.
Surely the whole world has this access, so what is Labours aim here?
That is one of life's great mysteries at the moment. What is Labour's position? I think they intend to vote Article 50 down but don't want to admit it.
Keir Starmer: Labour will not block article 50 but must know plan
May - I'm not telling you the plan
Labour - well we are not voting for the triggering of Article 50
May - So you are blocking the triggering of Article 50?0 -
The UK money supply is surging. This would indicate good growth in the pipeline.
So much for project fear nonsense.0 -
QUESTION.
Labour keep saying they demand access to the Single Market guaranteed prior to agreeing to trigger Article 50.
Surely the whole world has this access, so what is Labours aim here?- Sir Keir Starmer, the shadow Brexit secretary, has said that Labour wants the UK to remain in the customs union as it leaves the EU. It also wants special arrangements for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, he said. Starmer was speaking as he confirmed that Labour will not block any legislation giving the government the right to trigger article 50, starting the EU withdrawal process. But Labour may try to amend the legislation, Starmer said. (See 11.48am.)
But he also confirmed that Labour might try to amend the legislation allowing the government to trigger article 50.If it is legislation, then of course there might be amendments put down. And he gave some indication as to what those amendments might cover. This is what he said when asked about possible amendments. We are clear that we need the fullest possible access to the single market, that we should be in the customs union, and that there should be special arrangements for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Thank you.
Brexiteers often pointed out the EU has a number of trade deal arrangements with dozens of nations to include the likes of Turkey (Customs Union) and that it was thus obvious the UK would end up with a decent trade arrangement, but I don't see how Mrs May can GUARANTEE things up front.
Has Labour got a spare crystal ball0 -
Thank you.
Are Labour saying they will only allow triggering of Article 50 once Customs Union status is granted, or this should just be our aim?
How huh? Has Labour got a spare crystal ball
could someone clarify for me, would being in the customs union mean we couldn't impose immigration controls or make our own trade deals?
I would also like some details on the special arrangements Mr Starmer believes are necessary for Scotland, NI and wales.
Just so I know if I will be able to support this proposition.0 -
Study suggests hard Brexit would hit Ireland more than the UKIreland would suffer more from a hard Brexit than Britain, according to a new study.
The joint report compiled by the ESRI and the Department of Finance has found if trade tariffs are imposed, it will increase unemployment by 2%.
According to the Times of Ireland the charges would also shave 3.8% off Ireland's GDP.
Researchers say while the UK would suffer from a hard Brexit, the impact would be much greater on the Irish economy.

I doubt labour are going to vote against article 50 being triggered but want to appear as an active participant and the voice of reason.
Of course, they can only demand that being a member of the customs union be an aim. Some commentators thought the Nissan deal was indicative of a government seeking continued membership of the customs union - shrewd move by labour 'demanding' something they suspect the government already wants to do?
There will disappointment in the long queue of countries wishing to sign free trade deals with the UK as being a member of the customs union precludes the UK independently signing her own trade deals.0 -
Apparenntly last Wednesday the Toady programme made the mistake of interviewing the actual author of Article 50.
They were obviously expecting him to go on about how complex it all was and it might take decades, but he obviously hadn't got the memo.
He said Article 50 wasn't relevant in this case (it was written to deal with an EU member state that had suffered a coup or revolution, or was in a state of civil war). In his view the only exit mechanism required was "stop paying the fees, stop going to the meetings, and stop following the rules. Within 6 months the other members should have figured out by themselves that you have left."
Funnily enough, we've heard nothing from him since. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
LONDON (Reuters) - The price of central London's most expensive homes fell again in October, continuing a decline which began earlier this year due to increased property taxes and the Brexit vote, a consultancy said on Monday.
In the latest sign that the property market is cooling since Britons voted to leave the European Union, Knight Frank said prices fell by an annual 2.3 percent last month in London's most desirable postcodes, the biggest drop in seven years.
