If we vote for Brexit what happens

The trouble is that the two year guillotine applies unless the "European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period". Thus it only needs one bl00dy minded Council member to put the kibosh on the extension.
.... and this is why we love Europe!0 -

Interesting breakdown here of (possible) attitudes to Brexit.

From your linked articleas many as 28% of Ukip voters – more than one million people – say they would vote to stay in the EU; this supports the view that Ukip taps into a wider mood of discontent than that generated by debates about Europe.0 -

Yup. I noticed that.
I suppose it's an indication that some UKIP voters are attracted to the party for reasons other than Europe. I'm not so sure what those reasons would be, but clearly they must exist.0 -

Guillotine? There is no Guillotine. There is a two year period. It can be extended but hopefully our Government together with our Civil Servants will get the untangeling job done in the time alloted.
It is in our interests to complete the negotiations in time.
Hopefully it will not come to that as Brexit will be voted down in the referendum. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Over on the Trucknet forum, which is primarily made up of truck drivers with a few Operators and owner drivers, the leave the EU poll is at 86% to leave.
It's hardly surprising, it's one of the sectors that has been hit hard by membership of the EU. For Operators it's very difficult to compete with E European wages, Poles now have 26% of the international haulage market from ( my guess/industry knowledge) bu88er all 15-20 years ago. From a driver's perspective it had a downward pressure on wages for a number of years; it's still not unusual to hear of Lithuanians or Poles driving for less than £8.00 an hour.
Even the Germans don't like the way the expansion of the EU has affected their international haulage market. They tried to introduce minimum wage legislation last year for drivers either transiting Germany or delivering/collecting in Germany. It's on hold at the moment whilst some EU body debates the fairness. The French allegedly wnating to do the same.
It may be the undeducated, or less educated, that are more likely to vote to leave, but they are the ones that see their wages being directly affected.
Therefore a Brexit will result in higher haulage costs.
So we all need to add that to our list of results of a Brexit. This is a positive if you have a HGV driver in your household and a negative if you dont. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0
