Well firstly, UK sugar beet is harvested and processed normally from September to January

You do realise that the sugar beet has to be in the ground for a while before it's harvested, right?

The fact it's harvested in September and processed through to January doesn't mean they have time (or nutrients) for a 2nd crop. They might be able to get away with a short winter crop though.

And sure, they can always produce something else.

In what way is Westminster more accountable than the EU?

When a UK politician passes the buck for mass immigration etc to Brussels, how the heck would I know who to blame and how to get them out? An impossible adventure. That's why we don't want it.

If Mrs May now fails to get on top of immigration, once we've left the EU I know precisely who's to blame.

just looking at unemployment b4 we joined the EU (1973) and then it started to rise slowly and never been the same since,

..it seems the norm for high employment now ...
I don't think this has anything to do with the EU. Your graph shows unemployment going up just after Thatcher was elected in 1979. Whether you like Thatcher or you don't, I don't think there is any denying that her policies caused an enormous spike in short term unemployment in the early 1980s.

The other peak is the early 90s recession.

The final peak was the 2008 financial crash.

Unemployment could of course be reduced by going back to the 'full employment' policies which were in effect from the end of WW2 until the late 70s. This would reduce unemployment by reopening the mines and other government owned industries. Whether that is a good idea or not is another matter.

Don't worry Remainers, Britain will rejoin the European Union within 30 years

    30 years, it's a long time.
But there is light on the horizon. :)

We might well join another union, but it won't be a political one.

This is just more self-interested diatribe by a journo who feels slighted by being in the minority and is grasping at straws to ease his own conscience, and offering the same to the gullible who will lap it up.

    Here's another of his articles:

If you think Britain is divided and lurching to the right now, just see what happens if the establishment Men in wigs and stockings find ways to keep us effectively in the EU

Remember the entire establishment, heads of Government, IMF, ONS, Big banks, The Church, NGO's, most of the TV media, BOE, Treasure and PM backed by Government tried to bulldoze us into remain.

This really is a ground up peoples revolt, and the leave vote would have been stronger in the event the entire establishment
    had not ganged up.

We certainly live in interesting times.
You should also be concerned, as I am, that this will prolonge the whole process thereby prolonging uncertainty that is the enemy of good business.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

The 'vulnerable Calais children' is damning indictment of the naïve, lofty hopeless liberal establishment and their beloved experts.

Watch how those children are found to be Men but wont be deported, in spite of British soldiers spilling blood to make Afghanistan a better place to live.

Remember right now British kids suffer due to lack of spaces in the care system and elsewhere. Where are Rowan Williams and Lilly Allen's virtue signalling performances for British kids longing for a decent adoption?

I dread to think if some of these hairy blokes end up in the care system (some will in spite of supposed relatives here) having access to vulnerable real children in care

An afghan interpreter in London called LBC to say how angry she gets when exposed to many similar cases of fake children going back years. A Nigerian woman called in to say this is a familiar ruse for Nigerians wanting to get into the UK and then of course demand other relative can come later.

Be careful to direct your criticism at the true culprits.
    THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT.

I understand that these specific immigrants have come from a well respected peaceful and sovereign country called France.

Maybe Mary was right to regret the passing of Calais
