Did they agree to provide you with written assurance then?
They said they could snail mail the terms applicable to me. I wasn't entirely happy with that as the T&Cs "effective from January 5 2016" do not say that they only apply to accounts opened from that date.

They tried to give me the "call is recorded" as well but I am not happy with that either - it is exceedingly unprofessional of a bank not to give their customers clear T&Cs. And what happens if they lose the recording?

I have asked to raise a complaint. They said they had done that and I would hear in due course. They couldn't give me a complaint ref no because the complaints department was closed. So I am waiting to hear further, and I won't let them off the hook.

I understand that youaren't meant to apply on behalf of another person and as she was sat with me I don't think the fact that I was actually typing in the details really counts does it? Fair enough on the assessing independently bit I guess but to not offer an option for not being paid seems a bit of an oversight.[/QUOTEI did the same, I do all the banking, for me and OH.even on the phone, she will request I answer questions after she's cleared security, usually ok, but not always.
You aren't signing her signature online, just both ticking a box to say you both have read and agree to the rules..
]My wife applied for a sole switch months ago online, and answered all phone questions, they said it would be mailed, "implied" she was successful. NO mail.No A/c. nothing.
I/we, tried for a joint one thursday, just for fun,on a wet day, nowt else to do, and the brass of course, and the phone call was friday.
We were both interogated, seperately, at length, by a sarky kid, and he said they would let us know.He asked about the online App, how did I find it to fill in?.
I said I couldn.t get the kitchen sink on it:::
He asked how I was going to fund it, with pound notes, because I said I was not going to pay my income directly in???
I said , NO ,by SO from my main Hsbc A/c.of 55 years standing,I and he never mention other a/cs, that shut him up. he thought I/ we only had one A/c,Halifax,my main one, to switch, I didn't say we had another 46.
Apparently, only one person can open a monthly saver? unlike hsbc. That I did not like, one reason for opening it.
He said he would pass it on.
Same as the wife, I await the outcome.:rotfl:
    They have 2 choices, I have one.
I already have their CC, OH lives in their shops.so seemed a good move, to start the new year off.

Plan A - I will ask them to check the first call I had with them when they told me same thing

Plan B - come begging cap in hand for a copy of your written assurance :D

Do you have to go through a phone interview with M&S when applying online?

I'm tempted to apply online for a joint account with my wife. Both my wife and I have cash ISAs with them, and I used to hold a credit card, so they should have some of our basic details on their records.

But if a phone interview is on the cards ... my wife will go mad at me! (even something as simple as phoning FD to sort out her online banking so she could open a regular saver took me days of convincing ...)

    Afraid so, they are very stringent.Joint A/c and they want to speak to both of you. They spoke to wife when she applied solely, and it was only £100 voucher then;
they didn't even reply after saying her stuff will be in the post.
no searches carried out, none on this application yet either?.
Would seem they only want your MAIN a/c, something I won't part with..
Don't recall anyone on here not having a phone call, or to phone them??
    aint heard anything yet.
    don't expect to.:)
OH hates talking to banks too.

    Update! Just been accepted!
    There,s a surprise.

Does this sound like a plan?

My wife has an unused Bank of Scotland current account with zero balance and no active or non active standing orders or direct debits

I planned to use this to switch, would I need to add some credit to the account?

Can I use this sole current account to switch to an M&S joint account?

I assume I can set up two Post Office direct debits (one in each name) after account is opened as there are non for them to switch or should the direct debits be set up with the Bank of Scotland account prior to switching?

I will arrange a monthly transfer of £1000 in and out from another of our accounts.

I would, along with some standing orders, to give some authenticity, but you may choose to take the mick!

Yes you could, but you would be throwing £220 away!

That question is answered in the offer T&Cs isn't it?

    Why?
I meant can I switch the current account in my wife's name only to a joint M&S account via the switching process?
