In terms of 'switching' both of my emails from The Co-Op mention the CASS.

But subject to some 'formalities' I've been accepted as a customer and (like the people above me) am not awaiting the paperwork.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Just had a call from Co-operative Bank checking that my recent online current account application was by me. I didn`t reveal any of my details to the caller but agreed to call customer services (03457 212 212) and, after a few questions,
spoke to an adviser who said that this was the final level of security and that my application had been successful - bit of a "palava" - I was expecting the hard sell of switching but this didn`t happen.

I find it odd that they have called you and asked them to call you back. That never happened to me when I opened my account.

You might wish to note the terms of the offer – is this a way of them wriggling out of paying as you have engaged in a non online communication?

cashback is only paid on approved applications which are completed online and within 30 days from application. Any application that needs to be followed up offline (for example, to show proof of ID in a branch) or is over the 30 days from application won’t receive cashback

Hardly. More like fraud prevention checks.

The £42 offer which is presumably the same as the £157.50 offer now has more comprehensive T&C on the offer page under There are important additional terms for this merchant.

Includes the need to transfer to the co-op account.(Switch?)

Cashback paid through TCB is paid out only once per customer. (Is that per offer, once a year, ever? confusing).

Minimum monthly funding required: £800 per month for three months. (This is a new addition since Monday although was a feature of offers last year)

I think there will be many reasons for TCB/OMG/Co-op to refuse CB.
Even the fact Co-op aren't pushing customers to Switch might just mean you have an account opened but don't get the CB:(

So is it directly contradictory now in that you don't get cashback without switching, but if you do switch (as a result of that not being possible online), you also can't get cashback?

I could see this new account becoming a donor account very quickly at this rate!

Given the ambiguity in the terms and conditions for the £157.50 offer under which I applied, I will be citing the 'contra proferentem' legal rule if they refuse to pay the cashback, e.g. in relation to the requirement to 'transfer to'....the rule states that in cases of ambiguity the words are construed against the party that drafted them.

No the Co-op don't expect or allow anyone to Switch online, applying online for an account gets the Pending status on TCB, Co-op then open the account send the card and you then phone them to arrange the Switch if you choose to. That may then move the status from Pending to Confirmed. Once the status shows as Pending in TCB you can phone the Co-op as many times as you like, talk to staff in branch as much as you like etc it makes no difference as long as the original application was COMPLETED online. If it shows as PENDING it was COMPLETED WHOLLY ONLINE as per their conditions to get CB.

I don't know why some people are saying you need to Switch as part of the initial application process to meet the CB terms! You don't.

    More importantly, you can't.
