Welcome Lindsayandmatthew! :j
Shala - DH was getting really annoyed with my shouting at the tv watching that diet program! All of those silly eat half a grapefruit first or drink vinegar diets all say to eat a calorie controlled meal afterwards. Maybe if they just had the calorie controlled meal they would still lose weight and wouldn't need to swig vinegar!
Menu today:
B - 2 x hifi (heb), clementine, activia
L - carrot and lentil soup
S - biscuit (8), popcorn (4.5), kiwi, banana
D - chicken breast stuffed with blue laughing cow and wrapped in bacon, sweet potato wedges, brocolli, carrots, ff greek yoghurt, berries, meringues (2), syn free lemon curd0 -
Agree about the diet programme - definitely nothing I would want to try and certainly nothing sustainable. Wonder whether they'll cover SW and/or WW at some stage in the series?
An EE day today:
B - bacon & mushroom omelette
L - LO pepper & sweet potato soup, will water down a bit and add some pasta to make it go a bit further; HEB bread
D - pork chop, roast potatoes, roasted onions, red cabbage & broccoli
HEA will be 1% milk
No syns planned again (didn't have any yesterday) - this should keep me within syns for the week.

Just watching the "How to Diet Well" programme - coffee enemas :eek: no thank you!!
I'm not sure I understand the point of the programme if i'm honest...
They seem to be pitching it as if they are trialling all the diet fads. I've watched 2 episodes so far, and the diets mostly all have the same thing in common:
1/ Introduce a calorie restricted diet(often disguised e.g. eat as much fruit/raw food as you want)
2/ Add a novelty item to disguise point 1 (e.g. drink dilute cider vinegar, eat grapefruit etc)
3/ Add accountability to others (TV cameras will return later!)
4/ Add support (selecting volunteers in pairs)
I can't see most of these diets working if 3 and 4 are removed as there's no way anyone would stick to the craziness and restrictions otherwise. We are better off with SW as 1&2 are replaced by a plan which is clear and possible to follow for life, and we get 3&4 here/in meetings/from friends and family :T
I thought some of the weight loss was pretty disappointing, especially on the 4 month plans. If I was being forced to eat stuff I hated every day I would expect more than a stone lost over 16 weeks, that's not even 1lb a week.0 -
There is a new programme starting next week on ITV, tues night at around 8 I think. Sugar Free Farm, 6 celebrities live on a farm and go back to the ground as such cultivating and cooking their own foods and giving up sugar and processed foods. Might be worth a watch if you are like me like these sort of shows.0

Morning all
Haven't been able to watch the diet programme as DH and I go to a quiz on Tuesday nights and don't get in till 10.30. Doesn't sound like I'm missing much. I agree with you Musogirl, if fad diets also involve counting calories and/or exercising there's no point.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the spiky green cauliflower yet, DH thinks we should smother it in cheese sauce. We're shopping tomorrow so I'll be writing a menu plan for the week that will include the veggies I bought yesterday - I've a feeling there are going to be a few gravy meals on the plan, and I might do Chinese beef with broccoli, a recipe the 2 Chubby Cubs posted on Facebook yesterday.
I missed something off the list of purchases yesterday - I also bought another huge grapefruit. You'd be amazed at the size of it, it's a wonder it could stay on the tree! I hope it's as nice as the last time I bought one.
Have a good day everyone.

I'm full of cold today and solo parenting as DH is away all week - feeling a bit sorry for myself! Going to Google some low syn treats for later.
Hope everyone else gets well soon!0 -

Well according to the diet program if you eat half of that grapefruit before your dinner you're sure to lose weight!0 -
ALL diets essentially come down to calorie control. I enjoyed this week's episode because of the guy on the fast food diet. He was the only one who got even close to his target. Just shows you can lose weight eating anything really, as long as you track calories. I prefer the SW way because I don't have to do that (get a bit obsessive if I do) but I know that sticking to free foods and a few treats is not only healthy, but will keep me within a safe calorie range for weight loss. Anyway...
Today's plan
Breakfast - Pancakes, berries and coffee (0.5 A,
Lunch - Have ham and goats cheese that needs using, so something with those (0.5 A)
Dinner - Pork and veg
Syns for pudding!0 -

I agree to a certain extent its about reducing calories. I think anyone that reduces their calories overall will see a loss initially despite what they are eating. However 1000 calories of fast food is not going have the same effect your body as 1000 calories of vegetables. So I would agree reducing calories is part but not all of it.
I've done the eat nothing all day diet and then eat rubbish and have lost weight this way but never got satisfactory results with it.
I'm like you, I avoid calorie counting too because I can get a little obsessive with it.0 -
lantanna - I should have expanded that I'm in no way recommending the fast food diet. I know I'd much rather have 1200 calories of healthy food over a large burger meal any day. But it was interesting that he had the best results, probably because it's easier to stick to for the average person than the silly fad ones. But essentially, weight loss is down to reducing calories, health is down to nutrition and fitness is down to exercise. And if you can do all three, you're in a pretty good place.0
