Not quite abolished the Comfort Eating (or, in my case, Comfort Drinking) reflex action...

Had an attack of "Agh! Life = I deserve a Drink" today and fought it off successfully. Havent had any alcohol so far this year (or for the last couple of days of last year) and I think a lot of my weightloss is down to that iyswim.

I think that "Life:eek:. Have a Drink" reflex is weakening <fingers crossed> but imagine Comfort Eating and Comfort Drinking both stem from the same "reflex action".

So - has anyone thought up good strategies to deal with that "reflex" - other than very firmly reminding yourself "I mustn't. Think of my figure"?

Thankfully, I don't have to worry about having forbidden foods lying around the place for someone else. Being single - I can just stick cheese in the freezer until I've finished the diet. But access to buying a bottle of wine is precisely 10 minutes walk away - so, even if I've safely walked myself home that "reflex" response can sometimes be strong enough for me to decide a 20 minute round trip walk to buy some is worth it. I pretty much only like healthy food - and there isn't much of that in that 10 minutes away shop (only being an old-fashioned corner shop) - so I'm safe on that front. The nearest place I can buy healthy food is 20 minutes walk away basically.

But that corner shop does have a fair-size selection of booze.

    Regular Chips (227g): 17½ Syns
    Large Chips (340g): 26 Syns

Battered Fish, Small (120g): 10 Syns
Battered Fish, Average (180g): 15 Syns
Battered Fish, Large (225g): 19 Syns

But I think if you don't eat the batter the fish is free.

This is true. It's something about the batter sealing and steaming the fish, so the oil doesn't get the chance to soak in as it's only fried for a short length of time. Not entirely sure I agree with it, but hey, I'll take free! :rotfl:

I'm having one of these days as well, my boss is being a proper tw*t today, and I'm just thinking errggghhh have a drink, I deserve one... but shouldn't really do that, or grab a chocolate bar, or have a cigarette. I don't know how these people who don't drink, smoke or eat anything unhealthy cope with life sometimes!!
My friend just says, oh take some deep breathes... I wasn't aware that air has the same calming qualities that a nice glass of vino has!! Although as least air is syn free.... :rotfl:

Have any of you tried Not Your Daughter's Jeans (NYDJ) They are meant to be super flattering but are quite expensive so I haven't taken the plunge yet. Maybe I'll wait and make them my "at target" gift to myself.
    .

I've tried them on in John Lewis as I was happy to treat myself but didn't think they fitted that well for the price.

I once had a pair of those jeans that are meant to hold your tummy in but they were really uncomfortable and I couldn't seem to walk freely in them.

mary, I thought ripped jeans were high fashion??;)

Well done on the 'Dry January' money. My DH is doing it and I'm full of admiration. I'd be surprised if that's the only reason for weightloss though.

Glad to hear you're feeling better candy.:)

I've had two meals today so far as we had our main meal about an hour ago as DH and I are both out at different times this evening. I might have a snack later if I feel hungry enough.

    EE Menu:
B: NAS Grapefruit, 2 fried eggs, HEB toast, HEA ,milk for drinks
L/D: chicken stir fry courgette, peppers, spring onions, mushrooms, carrot, sugar snaps) with jasmine rice
    Snacks: cold meat, pickles
Syns: tbsp. honey, squirt of HP sauce

    Evening all :)

Reporting in with a disappointing STS.

I think I've convinced myself I'm following the plan but to be honest too many syns are creeping in and not being counted, specially of the alcohol variety.

Today is Day One - I'm determined to lose a stone before I return to the uk and I've only got 9 weeks so I've got to focus.

I'll pop back later to congratulate the SOTW.

    LL :)

Good idea to start from Day 1.:)

    Been to meeting LOST 1lb

I'm happy with that as I've not been strictly on plan with nights out, I've tried to claw it back the rest of the week, but the snow recently has reduced my walking, so overall a win :)
  • Evening everyone

Dropping by with this week's weigh in result - 1.5lbs off tonight. Not bad but had hoped for more - sorry Shala but I think I am still 'overdrawn' on my target for the Challenge :o

Well done everyone for the fab losses that are rolling in.

Thanks for the chart Shala - you are a star :T:T:T

Congratulations Musogirl on SOTW award :T:T:T

Cannot believe that you are talking of returning to UK already Lois

Impressed by the scuba achievement, Cheese.

Good work, Belsy, new me , b_e_g and queen of cheap.

    Congrats on being SOTW, musogirl.

Well, I’m scunnered to say I’m in the STS club again. I did say I was feeling fat, but I had hoped to have shifted something. Oh well, it’s a new week; determined not to wallow – that’s what hippos do and I’m not quite that bad!

    Tuesday’s Plan
    Pre- breakfast: banana
Breakfast: 2 LMcC roro sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms
    Lunch: HM parsnip soup
Dinner: Grandkids’ Favourite, i.e. macaroni cheese (8), beetroot, broccoli, wedges
Snacks: fruit salad, 2 x rice cakes (3)with light Philly and cucumber

    Fingers crossed for us all.
