Thanks Denise. Do apples need synning generally? I was thinking more of the butter and sugar rather than the apples. I've a lot to learn :o

Apples (and other fruit) have to be synned if they are cooked. I'm not sure what Syns they are, but I'm sure someone can help out.

If I remember correctly, the braised red cabbage recipe uses one cooking apple and makes a huge quantity - I had 6 large portions from it - so the Syns per portion are quite minimal.

Ooh, just had a thought. If the choc shot company did caramel shots too I can see a salted chocolate caramel dessert in my future.... that'd be amazing :)

    Teisseire Gourmet drops £2.79

This is a sugar free caramel flavour, think it's for coffee.. bit expensive though

Did Meg have some or did she say they sold them at Asda? May be a bit cheaper there! (just checked they're £2.00 as Asda)

Feel free to post your dessert recipes and photos.. we love a good nose! :D

Just back from Sainsburys getting my Friday night gin syns and got asked for ID!! I'm 36 :rotfl:

    That's a real NSV. Brilliant!!

I've been to Sainsbury's too and no burgers!!! Not just none in stock but the label removed and looks like they might have disappeared.:( So I either need to track down a low syn alternative in another SM or go back to making my own.

I've just looked at Delia's red cabbage recipe. Is it ok to follow this omitting the sugar and butter?

Like denise said the syns are minimal so you could ignore them. I use sweetener instead of sugar and a blob of spread instead of butter. Stewed apple does have syns BUT as I make about 10 portions (only use as an extra veg) if you divide it up it's rally not worth fretting.

I must admit I cheated today:o. I didn't buy red cabbage because Farmfoods had Aunt Bessie's at 29p a bag.

They had the chocshot on special in Aldi's at £2.79. Not sure how good a price that is?

I think you'll probably manage to talk yourself out of the cauli cheese once you think about how syns it is and how many syns a glass of wine is :rotfl:.

You're absolutely right! I've decided on a bit of delayed gratification. So tonight we're having the gammon with roasted Mediterranean veg (courgettes, red onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, peppers) and hasselback potatoes. Tomorrow I'm thinking of a few bhajis and samosas to go with the curry.;)

Any fruit which is cooked or whizzed up (as in smoothies) need to be synned. The reasoning behind it is that you can eat more of the fruit when it's not in its' natural state. The daftest one as far as I'm concerned is a banana - if I slice it into a sandwich it's Free but if I mash it then it should be synned - I'm still only using one banana.

I don't use the butter in my braised cabbage but if you decide to then you should syn it. Same with the sugar.

Thrilled to report a 1lb loss this week as that makes it 5 stone in total. :) Only 2lb to go before I reach target. It's taken me 50 weeks so far so I might make target before the whole year of doing this.
    Happy skips today :)

    Great result for you :)

Interesting about bra fitting. I had a mastectomy 6 years ago and I get fitted for new bra when I get a new prosthesis (I do get others in between times, lol!) and the ladies there fit the bra to the tightest fit, saying that this allows the bra to be loosened if it becomes uncomfortable.

    Well done, Sandhy.

Hi, BelsyBoop. If you’re reading back you’ll see there’s been a bit of discussion as to the value of online membership.

Sorry about your boiler, lantanna. You must be looking fab (and glowing), to be asked for id!

Ah well, I almost wish my friend had called off too, maman. All started out well – I had a starter of smoked mackerel, pea shoots, onion and horseradish sauce (didn’t eat this). I followed that with gammon steak, peas and chips (in my defence they were very fat chips and very dry, but chips all the same) and I had NO dessert. Then we went to Dobbies and after a wee daunner round we needed had tea and a cake. I have already slapped my wrist as there was no pokey stick about.

When I go home DH had made a very tasty sandwich for me – ham, cheese and tomato on a cheese & onion roll. I am in disgrace (I originally wrote, “I am a disgrace”, but I’m being more positive these days, so I changed it, lol).

    Saturday
Breakfast: boiled egg & hexb soldiers
Lunch: HM veg soup, piece of fruit
Dinner: we will be up in Dundee for football (unless match off; there’s an inspection in the morning), so we will share a takeaway curry and rice, so that’ll be about 8 syns.
Snacks: 25g wine gums (4), fruit salad

As you said, maman I’m hoping I’ve not done too much damage. See you all tomorrow.

I wish I could lose some weight from up top but it never seems to come off there.

Can we swap, it's the first place it goes from me and I haven't got much to start with!
Did anyone see the article in the Daily Mail saying that tonight at 8:02 is the time most people quit their diets?

I read that at 8.05 and felt very smug indeed - I almost decided to have a takeaway tonight but hunger got the better of me and I didn't want to have to wait for the Chinese to open :o

Big hello to all the newbies, congrats to Sandhy on the fantastic loss!

I'm reporting in with a 3lb loss today please Shala - more than happy with that!!

    Today:
    B - Mullerlight, apple
D - Xmas turkey curry (full of veg) and couscous, banana
T - Steak, mushrooms, cherry toms, asparagus, butter (4)
    HEA - Milk
    HEB - Alpen lights
Syns - Sugar in coffee (3), Malteser Miniature Hero (2.5!!!), hot choc and extra milk (3.5)
    TOTAL: 13

Not totally decided on tomorrow yet but it's definitely going to involve Austrian hash :p I've managed to save 22 syns over the week too so might have a little glass of vino or two...

    Happy weekend all xx
