Back again with the menu plan for today.
B - scrambled eggs on toast; satsuma, grapes
L - HM carrot & lentil soup; pack of Melba Thins (3.5)
D - fish pie, peas & salad (4.5)
HEA - SS milk
HEB - bread
Syns - cheese sauce; Melba Thins; wine syns
Will make the soup this morning. Also bought a red cabbage yesterday so need to dig out my braised cabbage recipe and get that chopped up and into the SC. Once cooled down will freeze in useable portions.
Denise
What a great idea Denise. I love red cabbage. Would you be able to share the recipe please? Thank you.
Edited to add that I've just seen Maman's post above so I'll have a look at that one. Note to self to read other posts before asking questions0 -

Thanks for the reminder denise. Red cabbage will go on my list today. I use Delia's recipe with a few tweaks.
http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/party-food/accompaniment/traditional-braised-red-cabbage-with-apples.html
Today's plan:
B: NAS Grapefruit, baked beans, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks
L: probably veg and lentil soupgammon, cauli cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, SW chips
Syns: scrape of spread, cheese sauce, weekend wine.
Just decided on cauli cheese on principle I'd have had more syns if I'd gone out to lunch. Perhaps I can talk myself out of it by this evening.;)[/QUOTE]
Delia's recipe is very similar to the one I use although I only use nutmeg and no cinnamon, might try it with cinnamon as well next time. I use sweetner instead of brown sugar. Not sure if there is less water in this cabbage than the last time I cooked it but had had to add some water as it was getting a bit dry - will check it again in a couple of hours to make sure it's not getting too dry. It's definitely beginning to smell really nice.
I think you'll probably manage to talk yourself out of the cauli cheese once you think about how syns it is and how many syns a glass of wine is :rotfl:.

:T to sandhy and shrimpy.
Looking forward to you being a target member very soon shrimpy.
 to the boiler lantanna.
I don't know the answer to the bra question money (hope you don't mind shortening your username) but loosest setting first does seem logical. I'd recommend anyone to go and get measured properly. Fortunately I don't take too difficult a size now (34D) but once I was measured (in an expensive independent shop) I now look every time I'm in TK Maxx. You still have to try them on though as styles vary so much.
On the big knickers question, we've had many a laugh over that. Good feeling though, real NSV. I think generally we've all stretched our clothes before joining SW so that's one reason it takes a while to drop sizes.

I've just looked at Delia's red cabbage recipe. Is it ok to follow this omitting the sugar and butter?0 -
Just back from Sainsburys getting my Friday night gin syns and got asked for ID!! I'm 36 :rotfl:0

Plus for the day - just tried out the ChocShot liquid chocolate for the first time. After reading the reviews of it, it seems to be either "love or hate" for it. Fortunately - I've come in the "like it" camp. Just had some drizzled over blackberries coated with fat-free greek yogurt and then frozen. It was nice...:)
Taste is something I'm missing re diet food - courtesy of the fact that fat obviously provides a lot of the taste in my food normally (eg latherings of butter). So any suggestions on dealing with the taste angle - as in actually having some taste in my food welcome.
I've bought Hugh FW's latest cookbook (ie the Leftovers one) and am reading my way through it (ie for when I've got down to proper size) and there's a lot of ideas there I'm planning on trying. One thing he said was about soaking some dried mushrooms in boiling water?/stock? for half an hour and that will create a lot of flavour in a soup. I cant imagine a few dried mushrooms would add any Syns to a recipe would it? Does anyone know the answer to whether dried mushrooms would need Syning or no? I certainly made a mental note of trying that idea of his at some point - as a way of adding a bit more flavour to food - so am hoping its possible to do so even whilst on a diet.0 -

Debjay - Delia uses more apples in her version than I do. I only use one eating apple and as there is so little in a portion I don't bother synning it, however if you add a pound of apples to the cabbage you might need to syn it at, say, 0.5 syn per portion.
Money - I don't know for definite but I wouldn't think using dried mushrooms would be synned - after all it's only replacing the water which has already been taken from them. I certainly wouldn't syn them. So go on, give it a go and enjoy the flavour it adds.

Yup, dried mushrooms are free. No different to dried pasta, really! :money:0 -
Afternoon!
Hope everyone's having a good Friday, this week feels like it's gone on forever! Did anyone see the article in the Daily Mail saying that tonight at 8:02 is the time most people quit their diets? Hope you are all feeling strong tonight, I'm not too worried since I haven't really started properly yet!
Hugs to anyone who needs them and positive thoughts for good things to come.
money that ChocShot liquid chocolate sounds too good to be true, I'll have to have a look for it!
re: clean jeans, I put on my jeans for the first time in 3 weeks on Wednesday and had to wear a floaty tunic on top, the muffin top was ridiculous. Jeans are getting a bit looser now but still can't take them off without unbuttoning which used to be ok, and I'm not sure if that's due to being less bloated or the jeans being stretched - probably the latter
Dinner last night ended up being beef stew and mash, with apple crumble and custard. Very yum, but don't even want to think about the syns. Hey ho!
Gonna have to have a ratch about in the freezer for dinner tonight, I there's some Sainsbury's veggie Cumberland sausages in there, but I have no idea of the syn value of them
I want to try and make some butternut squash noodles this weekend, and I might give these "meatballs" a go to go with it: http://cookingonabootstrap.com/2016/01/07/veganuary-beetballs-6p-each-vegan/ The question is, can I cope with having bread in the house without eating the entire loaf toasted with lashings of butter mmmmmm.
Goal for the next week is to get the snacking under control, and try to stick to a set number of syns0 -
Forgot to say money, I use loads of spices and seasoning in my food. I'm particularly fond of Schwartz garlic pepper and frozen cubes of minced garlic and ginger that you get in massive blocks in morrisons. I love the taste of ginger, I add it to everything I can!0

Having second thoughts about the idea of trying different vinegars in sparkling water/soda water/etc - after having picked up the idea from Jack Monroe.
Now trying pomegranate molasses in soda water. That's much more like it. Does anyone know if there are any Syns in pomegranate molasses? I'm imagining that must be negligible as well - as my bottle of it (Marigold brand) says its 294 kcal per 100 grammes. If my maths is correct - that means 20 teaspoons worth is 294 ml and therefore a teaspoon worth to flavour my soda water would be about 15 calories. Hence I shouldn't think it counts for Syning?0
