I don't find it that much more expensive. You can buy frozen fruit and veg if you are looking at keeping costs down but keeping your speed foods up. Veg tends to be cheaper than fruit.
Some people do find it more expensive though as they are buying mullerlights, hifi bars, pasta n sauces etcHow do you decide what your goal weight is! Does your consultant give input on that?
Welcome mrsp  to the board, there was a voucher in Woman magazine (I think you might still be able to get it until Tuesday) for free membership, saves you £10 that you can pay off your mortgage
Depends what your consultant does regarding your target, our old one didn't make us set a target at all until we were ready but the new one made us set one as soon as we joined.
Mary, good to see you back.
Denise, i followed the baked oats recipe on the SW website and just added the flavourings you would for a carrot cake..
35g porridge oats (heb)
1 medium carrot, grated
1 egg
few drops coconut flavouring
1tsp mixed spice
1tsp ginger
sweetner (to taste)
90g fat free yogurt (or quark/fromage frais)
- mix all the ingredients together
- divide into silicone cases
- bake for 20 mins at 180' or in the microwave for 2 minutes
It's not like cake so don't have high expectationsyou could add cinnamon but I don't like it. I thought it might be nice to add some nuts or crushed pineapple in it but that would add syns and I've had enough of those today
I might try choc & orange at some point  maybe I've just decided on breakfast tomorrow!Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
For anyone wishing to join a SW class there is going to be a voucher in this week's Woman's Own mag (out this Tues) which will save you around a fiver.
. ETA its a voucher for free membership so it saves you £9.95 - only weekly fee of £4.95 to pay

Thanks for the recipe Shala - might give it a try sometime. Have to say I didn't really expect it to be like "normal" carrot cake but DH did! He's just said he'd like a proper carrot cake (but he isn't getting one, LOL).
Back later with menu plan once sorted out.

Morning all
The carrot cake recipe sounds good Shala, but I tend to avoid 'pretend' foods like that as it's never the same as the real thing, and carrot cake is A. my favourite and B. the most calorific cake there is. :rotfl:
Welcome to the thread Mrs P - SW allow you to set your own target (unlike WW) so you can decide when to stop. If you need an idea of the best weight for you, you can use BMI charts, however IMO they aren't right for everyone. When you join a group you can make interim targets, some people start with losing 10% of their starting weight. You can also change your mind at any point.
Welcome back Mrs H - that squeaky door gave you away! You CAN do this and you've already made the first step by coming back and getting back on plan. Good luck with your next weigh in.
Hi Louise - I've heard people saying eating healthily costs more, but it is possible to follow SW without spending a fortune. As someone else mentioned, supermarkets now have a range of vegetables at low prices and I always focus on them to plan my meals. They're also great for making soups which are good for lunches on cold days, and can be used to make meat and fish go further.
Congratulations to your DH New Me. :T
Hi Mrs Ryan  It looks like you're well in the zone, you'll be ready for the awards in no time.
Today is shopping day, we close the shop at midday and then DH and I are heading off to Morrisons for a SW friendly late brunch. We do breakfast rolls here in the shop, so we could cook our own, but it's better if someone else does it for you (and they wash up too). Will be writing my menu plan and shopping list in a minute. (Not exactly run off our feet this morning.)
Have a good Sunday everyone.

Oh fab! I was a bit worried that I'd choose 8st 9lb (which was my original goal a few years ago on MFP) and not be able to reach it now due to age/metabolism/and hopefully some weight training and I'd be tied in to this concrete goal. I definitely want to get back in to the 8st thought, even if it is just by 1lb.
It's a bit different for my household (hubby and I) as we split the menu between ourselves. He cooks Wed, Thurs and Fri and I cook Sat, Sun and Mon. This means that (theoretically) I should be able to plan what I'm going to cook and then just buy the ingredients that I need. I usually shop at @ldi although I do use @sda and w@itrose (hubby works there and its a 10 minute walk). I've found it to be much cheaper since we started doing this as I go in knowing I only need food for X, rather than doing a shop and thinking, 'Oh, I could get that and we could have that at 'unforeseen point in the future,' and then it just goes to waste.0 -
Mrs P - when I started SW my consultant just said to set an interim target of 10% and then make a decision about what to do next once I got there. Lots of people like to do 7lb at a time rather than trying to pick a final weight. As LL said it's difficult to know what the right weight is and BMI charts are only a guide, not set in stone.
Have planned today's meals and it's EE again:
B - SW fry up; 2 slices of crustless bread - part HEB
L - Jacket potato with LO butter chicken - 4 syns + 1.5 for 1Tbs single cream
D - Pork chop, roast potatoes, roast peppers & onions; braised red cabbage, peas; splash of gravy 1 syn. SW Eton Mess for pud
HEA - milk in tea
HEB - 2 slices of crustless bread - may have a Ryvita or another slice of bread this evening if needed
Syns - butter 4 syns; butter chicken mix 4 syns; single cream 1.5 syns;
2 mini meringues 2 syns = 11.5 syns

You must have posted while I was typing my reply!
If DH cooks 3 days a week you'll need to get him on board too so that SW works for you. Most meals can be adapted quite easily to make them SW friendly - things like using Frylight instead of oil or butter to fry or even dry frying; using 5% mince rather than fattier mince - it's a bit dearer but I tend to just use a bit less and add masses of chopped veggies (and red lentils sometimes) to make it go further.
Once you join SW you'll be able to access the website and there are masses of recipes on there.
Good luck on your journey.

Morning all, reporting in with a 3lb gain for Friday 8th April. Fully deserved and I climbed straight back on the wagon yesterday rather than write off the whole weekend. That said I did consume 20 Syns (pesky nuts!), but I did at least count them so that's a step in the right direction
It means I am now 12st 0.5lb  Must get back into the 11st bracket ASAP.
Welcome to newbies and well done to losers!
Meg - wonderful news about your fella, long may it continue. Gives me hope too, feel like I'm up here on the shelf for the durationIt's crazy when you eat something you know you shouldn't and don't even enjoy it. I did the same thing last week with an Easter egg - I was expecting that lovely thick chocolate they used to make eggs out of, but it was thin and not that nice. I still ate it though.
I know. I had this conversation with a well-meaning aunt yesterday. She said, "If I knew I couldn't open a tube of Pringles without finishing the lot, then I just wouldn't buy any". THANKS I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT. I can't explain it, I know it's going to end in disaster but I still find them going in the trolley. It must be what it's like to be a smoker or alcoholic, you just can't resist. There was absolutely no mention of the new wine syns at group this morning, instead our consultant was asking what targets we had to aim for over the next few months - eg where we'd like to be weightwise before we go on holiday on such an such a date. One of the members was working out how many weeks it was to the date and how much everyone needs to average to get to their target by then!
It made a nice change from the usual saying how much everyone had lost and mini targets for next week! I've got 10 WI's before I go on holiday for 3.5 months and need to lose 0.5lb per week to reach bottom end of target range! No reason why I shouldn't be able to do it as long as life doesn't get in the way!
I love this and have just spent a good half hour downloading a countdown appA weekend in London in four weeks for which I'd like to be 11st and *single figures* lbs, then a weekend in Liverpool in six weeks for which I'd like to be 11st 7lbs or under. Both would require an average loss of 1.3lbs per week. Doable surely??
I haven't been yet but isn't it something like £10 to join and about £5 per group? I know I can afford that and I'd budget it in anyway and lose something else if I had to. This is pretty important to me.
:T MrsP, you've made me have an epiphany. This is going to be my new mantra.
Today I'm taking Grandma to Wetherspoon's for lunch. I was convinced there was a section on W meals in the back of one of my books but can't find it now, but I know there's loads on the net so will google now. For tea I've got yesterday's leftover speedy bolognese. Tonight I need to sit down and do a meal plan for the week ahead. It's my first week in my new role working part-time and mostly from home so it may prove to be a challengeAlso star week coming up so I'm going to really try to up my water intake.
In good news, following my painful sports massage on Monday, I managed the parkrun yesterday and am still fully mobile this morning! :j So hoping to be able to up my mileage a bit now, esp as I won't be working as much.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend all! xx

Mrs P - You can choose your own target. The consultant can advise if you're unsure but that will be solely based on BMI as that's what the system will auto generate. Just bear in mind that when setting it, you can only change it by at least half a stone. So if you set 8st9 and decide that's too high, you'd have to reset to 8st2 or lower. I wish I'd known that when I joined as my target is about 4lbs higher than I would like - I picked the minimum I need to lose (health reasons) with no buffer. If they push for some kind of target and you don't want to draw that line yet, ask to set an interim one instead of your final target. They are separate options in the system.
Louise - I find SW cheaper as I'm filling up with cheap veg instead of processed junk, and value weetabix (6p a portion) instead of a coffee shop breakfast sandwich which I used to grab a few times a week as I was too rushed with work to prepare breakfast. As Shala said, most people who say it's more expensive also tend to be the ones that are buying all the branded goods promoted. You don't have to eat Mullerlights (etc) just because they're free, a big pot of fat free natural yoghurt is also free and cheap!0 -

I found the Wetherspoons Shanghai Noodles quite good at 3 syns a go and you can add chicken or salmon to it. Enjoy whatever you choose.
