If you are just joining us you may not be aware of the bi-monthly challenge that we run to motivate ourselves which you are welcome to join. It isn't a competition, just a way of setting ourselves mini targets if your total loss seems a bit overwhelming.

The new challenge will run from week commencing the 29th February and finish on the 1st May - this gives us 9 weeks.

If you wish to join in with us then please post your target loss for the 9 weeks in red* or bold or massive or all of the above so that I can see it really easily.

In the following weeks please let me know your results also in red* or bold or massive. I may miss your results unless you make it as easy as possible for me to see :D;)

I will post the results chart each week on a Monday showing the prior weeks losses and singling out the person who has lost the most so we can make a great big fuss over them :T

Any questions please let me know - it doesn't matter which day you get weighed just let me know your loss on the day you get weighed and i'll add it to the correct week (maybe, if I don't get confused!)

I'd like to join the new challenge please Shala, I'm setting my target for 14 lb off. Want to be more comfy for my weekend away in Amsterdam in May.

Thanks for the chart as always :T xx
  • Wow Mary, good luck with the cooking! The only thing I've made from this month's mag is the sardine spaghetti which was nice, though not a huge departure from the kind of thing I usually have. It did get me thinking about using capers and cornichons in more dishes though.

Could you lovely people please explain SP days to me? Someone mentioned it on the last page, but said she's having HEB bread and also things like chicken ... I want to try doing this to boost my efforts a bit but am unclear on what you can and can't have. Thanks x

Today has been a funny one as I've been out and about instead of sitting at my desk, so not eaten as much (I eat out of pure boredom most days I'm sure!)

    B - Mullerlight, Alpen Light (B), clementine
    D - Campfire stew
T - Lemon Fishspiration (HALF A SYN!!), roast cherry toms, stirfried grated courgette and mushrooms, soy sauce.
Snacks and drinks - Mint tea, fruit tea, three coffees (A+3), Alpen Light (B), banana. Will have a hot chocolate when I get in from the cinema (2).
    Total Syns: 5.5

On the low side I know but it is weigh in tomorrow!
    Weightloss: 14.5/65lb

I find a good way to understand it is to think of a traditional meal: lean meat, potatoes and Speed veg. For EE you'd have a third of each. For EESP (Which is Extra Easy Speed/Protein) you don't have the potatoes only 50:50 meat and Speed Veg. So basically it's carb free. You can't have any free food that isn't Speed or Protein. So you could snack on lean meat but not yogurt or a non-Speed fruit like a banana. You get an extra HEB (so I HEA and 2 HEBs) and your syns as usual. Obviously you can substitute any protein (eggs, beans, fish etc) for lean meat.

I like to think of it as a spectrum. So EESP is telling us that in principle we'll lose weight more quickly if we don't have carbs and other free foods but if we have just one small potato or a yogurt then it's still 'better' than EE. If I tweaked it like that I wouldn't bother with the extra HEB but that's personal choice.

:T to all the losers and it's brilliant to see so many of you motivated for the next challenge. Well done shala, you're a star:A.

I'm on plan today although a bit low on Speed as I'm just trying to eat up fresh stuff from the fridge as we're away for the weekend at a wedding. Fortunately my (allegedly) size 8 dress from last year still fits:D.

So I'm not even thinking about SW after tomorrow's breakfast until Monday.

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS Grapefruit, baked beans, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks
L: grazing on cold chicken and smoked salmon
D: sausages (2) and mash, cauli, broccoli, carrots, onions
Syns: melba toasts, gravy and maybe some chocolate later

Hopefully June will pop by and explain it better than I can as she does SP most of the time.

Basically you need to have 50:50 Protein & Speed throughout the day. You also get 1 HEA and 2 HEBs. You still have your 15 syns as well. You can't have things like potatoes, rice and pasta as they are just Free. Most veg are Speed. Protein in things like meat, eggs, lentils, quark.

    HTH.

Thanks for the feedback about the Creamy Pesto chicken - might put that on next month's menu plan. The only thing I've made out of the magazine is the chocolate madeleines. They're OK but the mixture either made loads or my madeleine tin is smaller than the SW team used! I made a dozen and the rest of the mixture is in the fridge and I'll make them up tomorrow. Don't think I'll bother again as they're not really like madeleines.

Was thinking about getting the new book when it goes on general sale so some feedback on it would be great.

    Denise

Last night's chicken pesto chicken was very tasty Denise. Tonight's tea is also coming out of the mag - yes two recipes out of one magazine ;) - Hoisin Beef. Will report back on that one later. I saw the madeleines and I thought nom nom :D and then thought again. Never been happy with SW friendly desserts and the fact that they are nothing like madeleines doesn't surprise me in the least. At least now when I see them I will just think of your review. :D

Shala can you put me on zero on new chart please

Feel for you tweets. I was the same a couple of weeks ago with a 3lb unwarranted gain. We should know that our bodies do the strangest things at times but it doesn't stop us from feeling carp. Hang on in there and I am sure it will all come good. :)

2.5lbs loss is good Mary :T:T. Wow to the marathon cooking session

The Hoisin Beef with Noodles Stirfry from the latest mag was lovely and definitely will be used again. If the hoisin sauce was exchanged for other flavouring it could easily become synfree. It only worked out at 1syn a portion so not too bad.

Evening all :) Good to read reviews of some of the recipes in the latest SW mag. There are a few things in there that I thought sounded quite nice, but a lot of them either require some quite unusual ingredients or take quite a while to cook, so not got round to actually trying any of them yet.

Anyway, afraid I'm here to confess that I have strayed off plan this evening! Went out for dinner with friends and despite my best intentions I strayed! Don't think it was too bad though, day overall looked like this:
    Breakfast: blueberry wheats (heB), strawberries
    Morning snacks: usual speed fruit
Lunch: asda snack pot (1.5 syns)
Afternoon snacks: alpen light (3 syns), banana, beetroot salad, plum
Dinner: small piece of bread (3 syns?), bruschetta (6 syns?), grilled fish kebab with potatoes and veg - potatoes were quite creamy but only a small portion, will guestimate another 6 syns for this
    Evening snacks: apple, mullerlight
Drinks: water, diet coke, tea/coffee with heA milk

So overall I'm estimating about 20 syns for today, which is over but not too bad, and I know I've been under syns a few days this week so not too worried about it :)

Attending an event in city centre for work tomorrow, and not too sure what to do about lunch - anyone have any recommendations for any low syn/syn free 'grab and go' type meals I might be able to pick up? (e.g. salad from M&S/sainsburys local) Only option I can think of at the minute is a subway salad, but last (and only) time I had one of these I was left feeling very underwhelmed...
