  • Hello all - had my Friday WI and I'm 15:3 - I'm going to count this as my starting weight for the challenge (I'm pretty sure I've lost a couple of lbs this week loosely following SW and having no wine. I'm going to try and do as was suggested and start this week (I WI on Fridays) with the 105 syn and work from there.

I was so looking forward to a couple of glasses of wine tonight SYNS!! but MrGFB has suggested that we keep going till tomorrow as we have to get up for work in the morning...that sounds very sensible but I had an inner strop as I've been so good this week and was looking forward to a glass tonight...we'll see!!

Last night we had gammon steaks with a lovely salad, sweet potato *fries* and a fried egg - all done in frylight...it was so filling and lovely!

I had a good think about having HEBs and decided that I do like porridge so I'd bring that along to work for breakfast (I don't get to eat till about 10.00 which I prefer) only to have my porridge explode all over my microwave and not have time to make any more...

So...food will end up like this:

B: Total fat free yog with strawberries and 2 x bacon
L: Chicken salad with a little cheese
D: I'm thinking about making some kind of lamb curry with caulirice

    Syn: to be decided.

Gingerfurball - your menu looks like a EESP day so you can have 2 HEBs instead of just one. Are you having the bacon in a sandwich for breakfast using your HEB?

NSV here in that my middle is feeling less wobbly.
Good luck with your countdowns Beanie and BEG.

Thanks lantanna. Just worked out when the 12 wks will be up and I think it takes me up to about the first week in May . That will be 2 years to shift my blubber :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well done on your NSV btw :T:T:T. Noticed my new winter padded coat was a smidge looser this week so even though the scales haven't been too kind to me over this last challenge I am seeing it as a NSV too :D.

I hadn't thought about that...just had them first...a bacon butty would be nice...still have to get my head around As and Bs lol
  • Hi everyone, hope you're all well

Well done on your NSVs lantanna and beg. I had a nice one too yesterday from a friend of a friend who I hadn't seen in ages who told me if I lose any more weight I'll be fading away :rotfl: bless her it's not quite true but always lovely to hear (I was wearing my huge parka at the time so probably looked slimmer than I was). That's probably more of a SV than a NSV though as it's to do with the scales. I can't wait til my belly's less wobbly, it seems to be the last place where the weight is coming off.

Finally got around to making butternut squash soup and it was lovely. What wasn't so lovely was that I managed to cut my finger with the knife when I was chopping it  Next time I'll have to use the pre chopped stuff I think, it'll be safer :D

Bit of a food fail last night - we ended up walking the dog past a chippy and Mr Candy couldn't resist going in. But we decided that we'd get cod bites without chips and I'd make SW ones when we got back, and we got mushy peas instead of curry sauce. I totally intended to pick the batter of the cod bites but I forgot how nice batter was :p so although it was naughty it could have been much much worse. I reckon that's progress! Having minimal syns today to make up for it

    Today's food:

B - puffed wheat with nectarine & banana
L - BNS soup with sliced chicken
T - last night's chicken casserole with roast pots & cabbage

Syns so far 2.5 for extra milk

Great when people pass lovely comments candyapple :D. Pleased to hear that you enjoyed the BNS soup but sorry to hear about your injury. I am not a fan of veg chopping. DH doesn't mind it but sometimes he has trouble holding knife due his arthritis. He gets on my nerves though as he can get his dicing/slicing into even pieces and mine are totally random :p:rotfl:.

    Can anyone help please?

I am doing Beef Dhansak for dinner. The recipe calls for a 400g can of red lentils.

    1. I couldn't find canned red lentils,
    and
    2. I have loads of dried red lentils in the cupboard already

I want to use the dried ones instead, but I am pretty sure that 400g dried is far too much, as they will absorb liquid, won't they?

Would you just put 200g (or another weight) straight into the pan, or soak them first for a couple of hours and then add them?

This is the recipe, if that helps?

    Beef Dhansak
    Ingredients list
    400g can red lentils, rinsed
    2 carrots
½ small swede, peeled and diced
1 medium potato, peeled and diced
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 teaspoon ground turmeric
    400g can chopped tomatoes
    450g lean beef, cubed
    Frylight
    2½ cm ginger, grated
    3 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 teaspoon turmeric
    2 tablespoons madras curry powder
    ½ teaspoon chilli powder
    2 tablespoons lemon juice
    2 teaspoons sweetener

    Instructions

Place the lentils, carrots, swede, potato, onion, turmeric and salt in a large saucepan, and add enough water to cover it by an inch or so. Bring to the boil and simmer until tender

Add the canned tomatoes and cook for a further 10 minutes. Pass the lentil and vegetable mix through a sieve or use a blender and set aside

Boil the meat in a little water for about 45 minutes until tender (you can do this while the lentils and vegetables are simmering), and set aside

Spray a large saucepan with low calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat, add the spices, and cook for 30 seconds, then add the ginger, garlic, lemon juice and sweetener and stir together. Add the blended lentil and vegetable mixture, and the cooked beef and simmer on a low heat for about 30 minutes. Serve with piles of boiled rice, if liked

If you fancy an accompaniment to your curry, enjoy a poppadom for 2½ Syns or some mango chutney for 1½ Syns per level tbsp.

Aw thanks lantanna. I know I am now getting to the point where I have struggled in the past - maintaining. There again I could just do what I have been doing over the last Challenge :rotfl:. I know that I am going to have to continue going to class most if not every week to keep things in check :D
