    Hi everyone

I'm determined to get sorted out before the next challenge starts, I started off this year so well, then fell off the wagon and I can't seem to pull myself back up onto it. OH has started working back in an office, so he's not around to do the washing up the next day if it doesn't get done in the evening, and recently neither of us have any energy to do any cooking in the evenings anyway, in fact I've been struggling to find the energy to even make overnight oats! We've been eating loads of wheat and sugar and it's been affecting my digestion, my energy levels and my sleep. I might just have to find some low syn frozen/convenience foods and plan a couple of weeks based around that to get us on the right track. I was planning to start back at the gym from next week, and start going out for runs before work by 1st April, but we'll see how that goes. I'm just fed up of feeling knackered and fat.

Welcome back Treenybash, sorry to hear you're struggling so much. I think it's a common problem for people nowadays - long working days and no time - and could be one of the reasons for the obesity epidemic. People are resorting to foods that are quick and easy, i.e. Takeaways etc.

If you're on Facebook, check out the Syns Allowed page. There's a whole section of quick and easy meals using combinations of prepared vegetables, meat dishes etc, all very easy and with the syn values worked out for you.

  • Hey guys. I've not really been online for about two weeks now for various reasons. Initially because I was so busy with work etc... and then because last week I had a bad weigh in which sent me off track. Last week it said I'd put on 6 pounds. I had been slightly off track at times yes, but just didn't deserve a result like that! I went completely
off the rails for a day or two and then gave myself a talking too about how I'd never get where I wanted to if I let every little set back set me off track and got back into things. Imagine my surprise this morning when the scales registered an 8 pound loss. Now I know I haven't lost 8 pounds in a week but I am hoping that there was an issue with my scales last week or water retention or something and last week was a blip which has now been sorted out. At least I hope last week is wrong rather than this week!!

Anyway after that ramble can we call last week STS please Shala and this week minus 2 pounds. I think that looks better than plus 8 minus 2 especially as there was probably a scale error there somewhere!

The lesson I've learned from this is I need to try to not get so emotionally affected by the numbers on the scale. Easier said than done I know!! The good news is I'm back on track now and more positive.

Well done to everyone posting losses and hugs to those struggling. If you can take anything from my rambling its that sometimes we go up and down but if we stick at it and get back on it it'll sort itself out in the end.

I'll try to get on here more but work and gym and shopping and cooking and general life means by the time I'm home of an evening it seems like bed time already! i do read when I get the chance though and find you all very supportive and motivational. So I should join in more.

    Hi all,

Good to hear that most have had a good week

2lbs off for me please Shala but I fear that the last week of the challenge is really going to be one for me!

I'm away for a family party, staying in someone elses house with what will no doubt be a boozy meal out  so no great hopes of staying on plan shall we say? :D
  • Orlao I sympathise with your worries about a weekend away and staying with other people. I have the same issue. I'm going to Manchester this weekend to watch the football. Really looking forward to it as not been to an away game in ages but it'll mean two days away and the temptation of beers, chips and burgers and little control over what I eat staying with someone else. Torn between limiting the damage by being the best I can while looking like a party pooper when I order a salad and tonic water or going with it, enjoying it and starting afresh when back. I think I already know where my heads at as currently trying to convinced myself a break will be good for the metabolism! I reckon if I don't worry about things I need to make sure I get back onto it straight away rather than extending the holiday if you know what I mean. So might do some batch cooking over the next couple of days and fill up the freezer so I have less excuses about being too busy when I get back!
  • Hi everyone

Well donejoint SOTW belsy and hurdy :T and what fab news about your friend's little girl, hope she continues to make progress! Well done the other losers this week, hopefully I'll be joining you all tomorrow I've not cheated once this week, very proud of myself. Day 14 of no chocolate today and I'm finding that I'm not missing it at all now. I thought I might go crazy for the 1st 3 days but it's getting easier definitely. That said, star week is looming so we'll see how I fare then!

Thanks denise Mr BNS is still in my veg rack :D tomorrow is my day off so I'll evoke my inner Nigella I think and make that soup.

Hugs to those struggling, I know how hard it is to get back on the wagon when you've been off it for a while. This is my first week of eating proper SW friendly food all the time without cheating since I got my appetite back after my chest infection. So it's taken me a good few weeks to pull myself around.

    Food today has been:

B - all bran with banana and apple (again!)
carrot sticks for snacking at work
L - chicken slices with tomatoes and golden veg rice (1 syn as only had half)

and tonight's tea WW chicken pasta bake meal (2.5 syns) with frozen veg

More syns to play with later if I fancy

Hope you all have a good evening
    xx

I will have a look at those ASDA snack pots; I've avoided them mostly because I have no idea what bulgar wheat or quinoa tastes like or is like texture wise however I do want some low syn quick snack for work/emergency car box etc. Think I will do this month's big shop between ASDA and Iceland (top ups tend to be Aldi). I'm guessing these are those ones in yellow little pots near the other instant snacks?

Yep those are the ones :D Just be aware that the other flavours are slightly higher syns (think they're around 3/4 syns from memory). I also like the packs of giant couscous they do at asda which are free - they're slightly less convenient because they do require a hob to make, but still very quick and easy. I also bought a multipack of the Walkers 'pops' crisps this week which are 4 syns each - not tried the yet though!

Have to say thank you again Shala for the chart. Have been feeling pretty crap about my weight loss recently - feels like I haven't been losing at all, but actually, taking a proper look at the chart, I've only had one gain during this challenge, and have lost half a stone overall. Looking at it like that, I really haven't done as bad as I thought :)
  • Thanks Rebster - will keep an eye out :)

When does the next challenge start - think I need the added motivation!

Tete - I always make my porridge with water. It started when I was having porridge at work, as I need non-dairy milk and didn't want to keep a carton there due to inconsiderate coworkers. Can't say I notice much difference to milk porridge, most of the creaminess comes from the oats themselves.

Hmm, I'm not sure I like the sound of it, might start with half and half tomorrow...

Treenybash I completely understand how you feel - I seem to spend all my time either at work, cooking, washing up, or sleeping. I spend my life preparing for the time I spend at work! It's completely miserable!

    Today:
B - Two coffees to counteract the caffeine headache (A+2), apple, porridge (A+B) - forgot my raspberries and sweetener so it wasn't very nice.
D - Chilli, lentil and chickpea soup, cucumber sticks, Mullerlight.
T - The Sardine Spaghetti from this month's mag, but made with mackerel and linguine, was tasty!
Snacks and drinks - Carrot, apple, banana, Alpen Light (3), meringue (3), herbal tea, coffee (2), hot chocolate later (2)
    Total syns:12

And off to do some washing up :rotfl:

    Hi everyone :hello:

Completely understand everyone talking about lack of time/busyness. That's been one of my biggest hurdles to overcome with SW. Prior to SW I tended to eat a lot of convenience meals - not necessarily particularly unhealthy stuff, but quite high when it comes to syns. A big part of SW for me has been finding recipes that are relatively quick/easy, so I don't have to get back from work only to spend all evening cooking! The good thing is I do think it's got me into the habit of cooking 'proper' meals, which has to be a good thing :)

Tried out a couple of things in the kitchen tonight with mixed successes!

Decided to make chicken teriyaki (from SW website) for dinner, with added speed in the form of babycorn and mangetout. Halfway through cooking I realised the recipe needed chicken that had been precooked - all while staring at my pack of raw chicken!! Luckily managed to get the chicken quickly cooked and added to the pan. At which point I thought it may have been a good idea to precook the babycorn and mangetout as well :rotfl: Then as it was cooking it just smelt of worcestershire sauce, and I was convinced I was going to be eating raw vegetables drenched in Lee & Perrins!! And yet, somehow, it turned out pretty nice! Veg was a bit crunchy but perfectly edible. And looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow :)

Also made scan bran carrot cake (https://www.minimins.com/threads/super-simple-extra-easy-speedy-syn-free-carrot-cake.230227/) - the mixture did not look at all appetising and neither did the end result! Ate half of it this evening with a cup of coffee, and can't quite decide whether I liked it or not! Think it could maybe have done with a bit longer in the microwave (my microwave's a bit wimpy) and possibly some more carrot - not sure what 2 cups of grated carrot amounts to - I used 1 carrot. Will definitely eat the rest though, and will probably make it again if I can get my hands on more scan bran.

So overall, today has looked like this:
    Breakfast: bran flakes (heB), strawberries
Morning snacks: apple, pear, nectarine, clementines
    Lunch: omelette and beans
Afternoon snacks: alpen light (3 syns), apple
    Dinner: chicken teriyaki
Evening snacks: scan bran carrot cake (2.5 syns)
Drinks: water, NAS squash, coffee with heA milk

May have some more syns this evening if peckish, plenty to spare :)
