I don't have an ensuite but it would not worry me if people go into our bedroom. I always tidy up our bedroom before guests arrive anyway as we tend to put coats on our bed as our coat cupboard gets too full! I think I would try and avoid going into someone's ensuite though unless I knew them very well and would ask if it is ok first.

I agree. And I think that any person who has decent standards of hygiene would throw their dirty underwear in the wash or wash basket; not leave it lying around! It's disgusting.

Some people have different standards of hygiene to me! And I certainly have more respect for myself than to leave dirty underwear on any floor in the house! Ewwww, really?!

Yes it is a Costa Coffee shop. Could it be the same one, or do they have a habit of having their toilet doors opening directly out onto the cafe where people are drinking and eating in all their branches  :rotfl:?

I live in Warwickshire. Could be! Depends where you live. :) I think quite a few of Costa are like this!

It is a tad unhygienic isn't it?!

We always sit WELL away from the loo! :rotfl:

Not a fan of guests either TBH. I don't mind so much at Christmas if one or two people come around, but apart from that, I am not too keen.

We invited four neighbours around the other day, and said 'come at about midday, as we don't need to go out til 4, to fetch my brother, so that gives us 4 hours!'

Then I knew that 4 hours was the maximum they could stay. I know it sounds bad, but then everyone knows where they stand, and everyone seemed happy with it. It was just enough time too. We were ready for them to to at 4pm, and I think they were ready to go too. Everyone was a bit weary by then... :)

As I said, as bad as it sounds, I don't mind occasional guests, if I know what time they are leaving. Even if it's 5 hours they're staying; I don't mind, if I know. But when people come and I don't know how long they're staying, it stresses me out a bit.

The one I go to is in Eastbourne on the south coast.

Yes I also try and sit as far from the toilet door as possible. It gets very busy though and sometimes you've just got to grab a seat wherever you can.

Everything goes into our wash basket in the bathroom.

I'd not want to have my knicks sharing space with the random knicks of other people - and placed in a public/shared wash basket, in a public/shared bathroom. Ewww.

Then, once it's been emptied ... how often do you scrub out the washing basket that's had all these assorted knicks in?

Knicks are private and should be kept in one's own room.

Not everybody has one. I don't. Had one in the past, hate them as they're often ugly or odd shapes. I tend to toss my dirty clothes into a pile in the corner of the bedroom .... after all, nobody will ever see them. At BEST there might be a folded duvet cover that's due for washing over the pile.

i don't have a laundry basket in my bathroom, but all of our bedrooms have one, none of us (even my OH, who really isn't great at tidying up behind himself) leave our dirty clothes in the bathroom.

In the OP's scenario the householder had invited friends and acquaintances round for lunch - in that situation I'd expect they would have at least tidied up?

the one next to Birmingham arena also has the toilet door opening directly out onto the cafe - whats the issue? The toilet has a sink and drying facilities in there.

I don't have an en suite so that isn't an issue here - we have one bathroom and a separate loo.

Due to health problems, I spend quite a lot of time in my bedroom and I am perfectly happy for friends to come and talk to me there. I shut the door on the laundry basket if anyone is coming round.

When it comes to 'eateries' and people consuming food, there should ALWAYS be 2 doors between the public and the toilet.

There is much about it, but here is the first thing I found when I googled it.

    http://www.midsussex.gov.uk/media/Provision_of_Sanitary_Conveniences_in_Mid_Sussex_Guidance_June_2014.pdf

    It says on the document

"Toilets should not lead directly into rooms in which food is prepared or eaten. This means that there should be a lobby with two doors between the lavatory and the food room."

I actually thought this was well known information. Nevertheless, how could you NOT want 2 doors (at least!) to keep out smells!!!

This is why it surprises me that the Costas have a loo that opens directly onto people eating. Gross.
