I agree with this. The most pretentious people I know insist on giving you a tour of their home. I hate it. It's a flamin' HOUSE !!!!!!. What am I meant to say? Yeah great utility, yeah great en suite, yeah great conservatory *yawn....* I have seen it all before and I am not impressed. People who show off their house are like baby bores IMO.

They think everyone else is interested and fascinated by what they have; but they're wrong. Some people with big houses/new houses even think people are jealous, but no-one is.

And this is just me, but......the people who are the most pretentious I know and love to show off their house, seem to have the highest mortgage and the biggest amount of debt.

But in answer to the original question, I would not use the en suite unless I was desperate and I had asked first.

Perhaps they think that you'd be interested to see their new house.

After all, if you are invited into their new house, you are probably a friend or a member of their family - perhaps they assume that a member of their family or a friend would be interested in their house.

Obviously they are mistaken in your case, so surely you could just say no thanks if you are offered a tour?

Usually friends want to see your house, most people that came to ours after we moved asked to see it!

It wouldn't bother me if people used an en suite in my house because we only have people over that we're comfortable with anyway. I wouldn't use someone else's though.

OH FGS we need a relationship breakdown thread ASAP. (sorry)

I thought this Board was about Marriage, Relationships, and Families. No mention of en suites there AFAIS.
  • My house isn't big enough for an en suite. People have asked to see our wet room though, particularly friends with disabled children (I have a disabled son, and this is why the wet room was installed). They are particularly interested in the toilet - it cleans my son and dries him after use, as he struggles otherwise. Whosever thought that a loo could be such an instinct topic of conversation?!
  • I would just wait (unless the host saw me waiting and told me to use the en suite).

If you show people where the ensuite is then you can't be surprised if they use it.
  • As long as your collection of "personal massagers" are tucked away, I don't see the issue.
Yes, even the 14" "purple destroyer". :rotfl:

When entertaining, it's best to keep guests confined within the party wing, by locking the adjoining door to the main house. It stops all this awkwardness.

If someone was at the loo and I needed it id probably wait, or ask is it ok if I use the en-suite. this is for someone who I don't really know.

I can think of two friends with en-suites and to be honest I'd just use it.

I don't think I've ever been given a tour of a house of a friend tho.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

If I like someone enough to cook them dinner then they're welcome to use the toilet. What a weird thing to get upset about.
