Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Have done some baking with the little ones today and made some giant Jaffa cakes, which turned out rather well. Plan to do some more batch cooking tomorrow.

How did you make the orange bit? A giant one of those would make my decade.

Orange jelly that's been sat in my cupboard for quite some time! I made it with a bit less water than the instructions state, so it stayed a bit firmer.
  • Just quickly popping in to report a spend day today (and yesterday).

I have blown the food budget!!

Am so tired so going to bed but will update tomorrow.

That is amazing. I'm so making that!

    Awww Elephant. How much by?

Have the radio on here and it cannot stop announcing that today is Blue Monday every 5 minutes. To anyone feeling a bit fed up I'd say that could make them blue! Thankfully I feel alright.

The theory this week is that all the batch cooking gives me a straight run through of NSD'S till Friday. We'll see. Today will be for sure as I don't need anything.

Hugs everyone. In the library again. DS3 has 'borrowed' my laptop - at least it means he can still 'talk' to beloved, so I won't have to cheer him up later. His friend is on the way with my mended laptop (start button needed replacing) and DS3 is going to buy the new one off me. Mum gave me the money back for the Scottie dog shortbread - just can't seem to do impulse buys.

On a serious note, mum phoned last night. She had just got back from the hospital. She found her partner on the bathroom floor yesterday. On arrival at A & E they found he had had a slight stroke, but his heart isn't working properly either. They resuscitated him once but the doctor has said they will not do it again but otherwise they are doing everything they can for him.

If he makes it through till this morning they will assess how much function he has lost and fix an external pacemaker (not up to an op). Mum kept saying how much better he looked when she left and I felt really cruel but had to warn her that he could have more strokes (first 24 hours is most dangerous) and that possibly this might be a 'good time to go' - all his family were with him.

I did intend to make a serious start on sorting the junk that is not to go to the bungalow with them today without the added pressure of doing it after a death but now it feels !!!!!ish and atm don't know if he will be able to go with mum or will have to go into care. Feel slightly selfish as I already think the burden of looking after him is too much for mum and is seriously adversely affecting her health.

Sorry to bring the thread down, when we are all struggling anyway. Was slightly beating myself up at the weekend as I feel I am not 'getting on with things' but now I am completely in limbo - the next few weeks are going to be 'in crisis mode' but I don't yet know which crisis it is. This is why I told the counsellor that all those 'major life events' which can drive you into depression (moving house, illness, close death), my normal operating level is 2.5. Even though I am not the one immediately affected, I know I will be the one doing all the practical stuff as usual.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

I have obviously missed the memo about it being blue monday. Thankfully as there is nothing worse than someone else telling you how you should be feeling.

mothernerd... i really hope everything works out for your mum's partner and that you continue providing the extra support you provide them with now.
Hugs to you and your family.

So, it is currently 15:21 and this is the first time I have had the laptop open all day, the TV has remained off and my CD has been on repeat.
Today is the living room and dining rooms turn to be cleaned.
    :D

So far, I have completely cleared out all the units in the dining room, cleaned all the shelves and put the ornaments back in.
The cupboards underneath the units have also been cleared out, cleaned and the stuff sorted out. It now looks very clean and tidy (and the CDs are in alphabetical order, yay!!).
    :o

Next up is the living room which should be relatively straight forward as there is only one cupboard (which contains a massive stone as it is a fish tank unit and needed stabilising).
OH's job this weekend is to move the sofa (it's a corner one and I can't physically move it) and hoover underneath and also sort out a bag of cables to see what we need to keep and what we can throw out (OH loves his cables and electronics).
    :)

I am feeling pretty good to be honest. It is amazing how a little bit of cleaning can make a person feel accomplished and like they have achieved something.
Keep staring at the fishtank. Haven't had fish since the mass death two years ago (I swear the fish were in a cult as all they did was stare at the filter all day then I came down one morning to find them all dead, every one of them). I was the only one living in the house and I didn't do anything to them, the fish tank was fine as my dad checked so no idea what happened.
I think we are going to have fish again. It seems like a good idea and it is a shame to either sell the tank or just leave it unused and being wasted. We have all the equipment so would just have to buy some fish.
    :undecided

well, this living room isn't going to clean itself. see you later. Oh, spend-free day today as I haven't left the house.

  • Greetings Turtles!

Apologies for my absence but have been very sleep deprived over the last 3 days due to the noisy neighbours (did I mention they have 2 toddlers that contribute a large part of the neighbourly noise - toys with wheels and wooden floors do not go well together!) and so therefore just functioning/existing and not much more.

Never mind, am now on my week off and not going to let them get to me! Plus I can drink wine to help me get to sleep if REALLY needed! :rotfl:

Managed to get to 13/21 NSD's but yesterday, today and tomorrow are all spend days.

Went to a gig yesterday evening and had cheap eats/drinks in Weathersp00ns beforehand (£14 for hubby and I to both have food and a drink each). We had already paid for the gig tickets before Xmas so was a cheap evening out, including the very brisk walk home afterwards. :T

Today I had a facial for free :j
It is my monthly £20 treat to myself after quitting smoking a couple of years ago (and is still a lot less than I actually spent every month on cigarettes! ). I had accrued enough loyalty points at the salon I go to, so didn't need to pay anything, result!
I then met up with a friend for a cup of coffee, she is currently unemployed and having a tough time, so I paid for hers too. £5 all together.
I then got some YS avocados in M&S and stocked up on my 1kg BUCKET of cashew nut butter (I have this on toast for breakfast since developing an allergy to peanut butter :( ) and some other store cupboard supplies in H0lland&Barr3tts penny sale. £27 in total.

No domestic goddess-ing today - can't get warm so hubby and I have agreed to curl up on the sofa under the duvet with large cups of tea and some biscuits when he gets home from running a few errands, and watch some films we haven't got round to viewing when he bought the DVD's before Christmas. One of the cats is already testing out the duvet/sofa arrangement with me. :rotfl:

In other news I have however been doing my sums in preparation for remortgaging at the end of this year (Oct our fixed term runs out), and figured out if I move some money around now I can save us £3.5k in mortgage interest AND get our outstanding balance down to below the next loan to value threshold meaning we would qualify for applying to remortgage at much cheaper interest rates than we're currently on! Just cross with myself I didn't figure this out 3 months ago!!

Calling - glad to hear you're having a better day today.

Mother nerd - my grandmother had a similar series of mini strokes 4yrs ago and she had us all very worried about her. Miraculously she bounced back, almost to complete full health, although her short term memory has never been quite the same. I hope your mothers' partner has a similar speedy recovery.

Well done on the batch cooking and cheap living/NSD's everyone.

    Stay warm.

    Catwoman x
