NST - January. Bobs post bauble debt busting challenge

  • Signed the lease on my storage unit today and made the first payment so got dad to take me shopping as it was already a spend day. Must remember to set up the standing order for future payments.

Got beef stew cooking in the slow cooker, enough to do me most of the week and put half the pack of beef in the freezer (although I imagine it will be a few weeks before I want beef stew again!). Spent £9 on groceries, including a box of eggs as I used one of mum's eggs last night in a cake/pudding thing and she only had one left so thought I'd better pre-empt any yelling (still got a grouchy face at me putting something in the freezer...sigh). On a positive note (which I'm kinda grumpy about) dad got bored of shopping before I got as far as chocolate/biscuits and dragged me out of the shop, so as I'm determined to clock some nsd this week means I'll have to bake any goodies I want this week, which I generally can't be bothered to, so will hopefully aid the weightloss....unless I raid mum's cooking chocolate.

Glad the duvet helped clippy :)

MissTara - I hadn't realised you were running the Make do and Mend thread on OS..I had a read through it all yesterday..such a great resource.

The 2015 thread was such an inspiration for me and really made me think about how much I waste so decided to volunteer to run the 2016 thread.

mothernerd glad to hear mum's partner is a bit better. Look after yourself.

A spend day for me as I bought stamps so I could send away my mum's birthday card and also bought some dips as we decided to make fajitas from the leftover roast beef from yesterday. Hoping for a few NSDs this week as mostly I'm just at work.

Well a spend day today as planned. Got OH's birthday card and food for his birthday dinner.

Bob we are having prawn cocktail (one of his favourites and we have the prawns and sauce left over from Christmas) followed by Roast duck (chose a whole duck as it was the same price £8 as 2 duck breasts) followed by birthday cake (shop bought as he is the baker in the family and I couldn't ask him to bake his own birthday cake). Didn't use the M&S vouchers in the end as it was already a spend day so didn't see the point in spending more for the ingredients. I do love him really :rotfl:

Hoping for an early night so that I can try to get up and make OH a coffee in bed for a change it will be his birthday after all. I'm usually a very spoilt bunny and have mine brought up to me every morning :j my turn to do it tomorrow

    Night all

  • Hi everyone!

mothernerd glad your mums partner is better.

calling you are welcome to sample my baking any time, neighbour!

SFD 8 for me today. Got some batch cooking done, with 2 pasta bakes and a pasta and meatballs added to the freezer.

DS is going for his first overnight school trip tomorrow so I'm feeling slightly nervous. We have packed his bags today and he is very excited! I also took the opportunity to sort through his drawers. Hopefully tomorrow I can sort through his old clothes and see if there is anything worth selling.

Planning a fakeaway night with DD tomorrow. She loves curry, which DS is not too keen on, so will have another batch cooking session and cook up a variety for a feast tomorrow and some for the freezer too.

17 NSDs is amazing. Would you say that you are doing anything different to the norm to achieve them or are you just naturally very frugal?

To tell you the truth Bob, I don't really spend apart from gifts, cards, chazza shopping, so a NSD is the norm for me.
. I have had to prepare and organise my spend day, buying everything I think I will need on that day. For instance I knew I had 5 birthdays coming up this month so I bought all the cards and gifts last month, plus as I was buying a few groceries yesterday, I bought a birthday gift for my DGS who's birthday is the beginning of next month.
This challenge, and a few others I am on, has helped me to be a bit more organized and to ask myself if I really need to spend.:p

mothernerd - glad to hear the good news.

ccl - well done on your freebie.

stewby - you can freecycle the cables, even if you don't know what they are someone will take them on the off chance they are useful.

I haven't got anything free this month unless you count the free Co-op, Tesco and Boots magazines and a free Mc'D's coffee but I did have to pay for the original coffees to get that.

I have bought something very expensive and put it on my CC. As you know I (and DH) are very keen cyclists but in winter it is so hard to maintain our fitness levels due to the weather so we have bought a spinning bike. It was delivered this morning and we will be trying it out this evening. I feel really bad about the money on the one hand but I am really looking forward to the extra workouts I can do when the weather is bad.

So after a reasonably good start to the month I must admit to struggling a little with NSD so much so that I've lost count of which days are which.

Things have been a bit mental around here this last week or so with family (sick kids, car troubles) so I also haven't been able to check in daily. I'm hoping I can turn this around for the remainder of the month and try to get a good routine ready for February!
