Well done everyone. So many great results being reported today.

Dolly - well. From what you say I know how important keeping fit and healthy is to you and your husband..so you have helped that aim forwards with the purchase. How many months do you think you've added to your DFD?

Calling - well done on your payment.

TOG your kindness shines through in every post. I haven't been in the position where I couldn't afford to eat for many years now but i remember it and I wish it on no one. I am so glad you could help your colleague.

    FunBrum -get well soon.

Well, I am being a bit rubbish at checking in every day :o but did manage another NSD today, which brings me up to 9 :T

I am unlikely to make 21 though :o I tend to do a big shop every so many weeks, and just buy bits in between, which leads to 'little and often' spends - to say nothing of my charity shop books /toys habit :o

So long as you are happy with your budgets the actual number of NSD'S is less important.

  • TOG - I wish there were more people in the world like you. What a wonderful thing to do for someone. Small things mean such a lot to people.
I am beyond tired at the moment - parents evening which was non stop for 3 hours. I got home and I've literally had time to eat, wash up, feed the cats and have a shower. DH did dinner and lunches for tomorrow but tonight is a night off.
Obviously this level of busy means another nsd. :D

Today has been a NSD for me & we've flipped the meal plan around to accomodate the fact it's extra cold and gone for one of the more hearty dinners, spicy pasta with chorizo.

My credit card statement came through yesterday. I think it was you Calling that has mentioned before about how sneaky credit card companies are for reducing the min payments so much once your balance goes down a little. My min payment is now only £57 a month from almost £150 not so long ago. Good job I am not foolish enough to reduce my payments but instead keep kicking down the balance as hard as I can.

The NSD part of the challenge has been really good for me though (even though I am not very good at it :o) because it has made me more mindful about spending and I am noticing the difference in my bank balance :)

Thanks all for you kind words. I have been through some dark days myself although not to the point of having no food in the cupboard. There was this one occasion when our choir had to go to Manchester for a concert and we were down to the last £20, 4 days before payday. On our way back home from Manchester, our petrol light came on on the M62. Unfortunately two of the services we passed by were shut. My husband tried to drive as economically as possible while watching the miles to empty indicator on the dashboard. Guess where it turned to 0 mile. Right at the petrol station in Wetherby. We filled the tank with the last £20 and drove back home, praying that it would get us home. It did. We managed to drive home uneventfully. The following day, my husband went to work and again the petrol light came on. He started worrying how he could go back home after work and how he would be able to commute to work in the next 3 days before payday. That afternoon, it snowed heavily. One of this colleagues said there's no way she could walk home in that weather. She asked my husband if he could give her a lift home. My husband said he would if he could but at the moment he's not even sure if he could get home as his petrol was almost empty and he had no money left. The colleague kept insisting on getting a lift and my husband kept saying how impossible it would be. In the end the colleague said, she's definitely not walking home in the snow and instead of taking a taxi, could my husband give her a lift and she'll give him the taxi money to put petrol in his car. Talking about answered prayer. The deal was made and that money his colleague gave him as his "taxi" money lasted for 3 days until payday. So I can say there are lots of kind people around us. We just need to find them.

I did a bit of grocery shopping after work and spent £20 to avail of the 6p off per liter of fuel. I did find lots of ys goodies. Our dinner was stir fried vegetables (oriental stir fry vege 34p plus cabbage and leek 24p, plus less than 10 minutes in wok equals a very nice vegetable stir fry plus apple pie 40p equals dinner for 4 for less than £1. Iceberg lettuces for 10p per head, spring onions for 9p, hummus for 9p will be part of the packed lunches for 4 tomorrow. I also saved 1.90 according to their price match not including the savings with the ys. Plus 20 nectar points earned. Petrol tank is full for £32.83 but with the petrol discount voucher, I paid only £30.91 plus 32 nectar points. I also wombled an abandoned receipt for 5 nectar points.

  • Hi everyone!

Another productive day here. Waved DS off on his trip this morning and managed to hold back the tears! Have seen a few pics in social media and looks like they are having a great time, but I just can't help worrying!

Did a small shop this morning and had a cook off using my takeaway secrets cookbook. I am very impressed with the results. DH said my curries were as good as the takeaway and that my nan bread was better! So, we should never need to but a takeaway again! Made enough to puta batch of korma, chicken tikka masala and 3 nan breads in the freezer, even after having a huge feast this evening.
