NST - January. Bobs post bauble debt busting challenge

Hi All
NSD 5 for me. Should get another tommorow then I will shop on Sunday.
I found a penny on the road today. It's a slow start to the year on the roadkill front but I continue to visualise the £20 note with my name on it that will come fluttering to me on the breeze one day soon.
Tonight's meal was a ploughman's using the last 4 potatoes to do sautees and then serving with a large green salad, Stilton, cheddar, the last of the pickled onions, home made sausage rolls, crackers and hot sauce. Yum.
Sadly none of my 6 ebay items have sold. So no extra cash for overpayments yet.
We are having a night of Netflix to entertain us. 47 Ronin to be precise. Starring Canoe Reevesheard someone call him that once and it has been that ever since.
TOG - well done on resisting the call of the takeaway. There is something about the smell of fish and chips isn't there. I am stuffed from my dinner but reading those words just made me almost smell that vinegary goodness...
Mothernerd - good to hear from you. Well done by the way! It must be very annoying having to go to the library to use the computer. Hope you can sort yours soon.
Traveller I felt for you reading through your situation. I think it always hurts us when our children's behaviour is bad. Like somehow it is a fault on us? I know your son is an adult so he should act like one. I hope you can forgive him though. As your first born you must have a strong bond.
Catwoman - what fantastic news about your bonus that is just a brilliant bit of luck.
Well done to everyone for surviving the first week of Jan. It's felt quiet to me, like the year is still sleepy. No doubt things will be hotting up soon.
For now it's the weekend. Enjoy the pause if you aren't working. And keep your thoughts focused on how to make the next 7 days low cost, well organised and useful.

Well. I'd get a nice section of legs, thighs and wings to start off with..make yourself up a batter. Then add spices to it as desired. I'm not sure what the Colonel puts in his but I'd go for garlic salt, smoked paprika, cayenne, a tiny bit of cumin and plenty of salt and pepper. Then sprinkle your battered chicken in very fine bread crumbs. And oven cook for 30 mins to make sure the meat is cooked properly. After that flash fry each piece in a smoking hot pan of oil to get the crispy goodness going on. Serve with corn on the cob drenched in butter and maybe some home made baked beans
Wow, reading this at gone midnight and now I'm hungry.
NSD 8/8. I seem to be in some kind of frozen purse mode. Some of my colleagues splashed out on breakfast from the cafe and I couldn't bring myself to break my streak. I kept thinking that I could make my own, nicer, cheaper version if I just waited until a planned shop (tomorrow). The same thing happened on my way home picking up my mum (box set evening). We both fancied chocolate but decided we didn't need it that badly. The urge to splurge is slowly morphing into an urge to NOT splurge. It's so weird.
Weather getting colder down in bucks. One poor person must have hit ice or something and flipped his/her car into a ditch. Rubbish way to start the day. Note to self: be careful.
One other thing to report. I have run out of Game of Thrones Season 5. Noooooooooooo! What am I going to watch now??0 -
jeanangeo a good recipe for KFC style chicken is http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/colonelmerrettsbucke_91985 It's from a TV series called Frugal Food I think and I cook this for DSS who loves it and claims it is better than KFC. It takes a little time but is worth it. I often chop up a chicken breast and add this as well to make popcorn chicken which also goes down well.
Back later to hopefully claim an NSD.
Chez xThat money talks I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"0 -
Morning all,
Sorry for my lack of posting yesterday, I was out for a family meal and had to wait to see if it was a SFD. And it was so 8/8 :j
Today however will definitely be spendy but I aim to get it all out the way in one day - money for parking as need to pop into town, food shopping, petrol and a haircut for my long haired dog!
Better get going, see you all laterLBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)
New roof and car £8557/£19003 New kitchen £396/£5039 Credit card Paid Student loan Paid0 -
Jeanangeo I believe you can buy a takeaway cook book which has recipes to make food just like in a lot of chain takeaways. Think it's called fakeaway or something like that. I read about it on the old school board a few years back. Worth looking into if you want to branch out from kfc!
Well done on your NSD streak :T is anyone else on 8?
Mine is awful as I'm only on 2I know where I'm going wrong and it's buying unhealthy snacks at work. It's also tied into me already breaking my New Years resolution of ditching the junk
i am going to leave my purse at home now (will take my credit card in case of emergency spends). Even I am not desperate enough to withdraw money from my credit card to buy a cake.
I did my food shop last night so don't need to spend until next Thursday or Friday when I do it again. Feel like I need to challenge myself to not spend anything until then.
Today's plans are
go to the gym
Stick draught proof stuff around front door
Return my m&s rug via post (avoiding temptation by going to the shop)
Consider whether to try and repair my leather boots and then return new ones to office by post. New ones are a bargain and I know they will be comfy and used Xmas money. But current ones were £140 last year and regularly decide to rip my feet apart. But seems wasteful
Do my tax return
Hoover downstairs
Sort paperwork whilst watching tv tonight
Have a good day turtles:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -

Only on 4 NSDs here, but hoping for another todayAs for the boots, if they rip your feet apart you shouldn't wear them. Keep the new ones - your feet are more important. How badly damaged are the current ones? Are they saleable on ebay? Even if they need a professional repair, if you are honest about the damage with clear photos etc someone may still buy them, if they were expensive. Just because they don't suit / fit you, doesn't mean to say they would not be just right for someone else

Bob - I once found £20 in B&Q carpark - it was a wonderful day!!
clippy - I would keep the boots if they are what you want, don't wear the painful ones.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Morning all - it's a good day so far because
1. It's not raining
2. DH has taken ds to his football match.
I've been out to collect my prescription this morning, but still aiming for nsd as I allocated cash for it on Thursday when I did my spending.
We have a hospital appointment for a 'chat' with one of the nurses to find out how we're all getting on.
I know that the nhs is in trouble all over, but I feel quite a lot of despair at how understaffed and underfunded mental health services are. The doctors and nurses work so hard, and do a fantastic job, but the truth is that there's just not enough of them. Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Crazy cat lady- I feel you with despair at adult mental health services.
I had a spend day yesterday (forgot to come and update). Today ought to be a nsd....I have my best intentions.Credit card respend 2551.58 (15/02/17)0 -
Quick update as still using the library computers. Tried to get to repair shop on New Year's Eve and this Thursday but he wasn't in (think he's doing it more as a hobby, he only charged me £25 last time and he had done 3 hours work on it) Was going to ask if he had one for sale - this is 3 years old and was bought second hand. May be appropriate to upgrade whilst I have the money or just get a very basic one as back up (already using DS3' old cable and batteries need replacing).
Yes the house sold on Friday. I haven't lived out my fears and gone on a wild spending spree (just got the 5 minutes left signal). Last weekend was spent shed clearing (+ tools, cleaning materials etc). DS2 and his friend brought the van to actually move stuff but couldn't get there until 8pm Sunday so I spent Saturday dragging things into the house, then Sunday sweeping the shed clear and stacking the remaining stuff.
Couldn't move Monday. Tried to sort as much as poss by phone (didn't work). Tuesday went up in the hills to me solicitor as mum finally accepted that what I had been (1 min - will postMy mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0
