Trying to sport out post-cyber attack free 'upgrade' choice for MIL. She has phone only service-no TV or broadband. So that rules out 'broadband health check' or 'extra TV channels'. No mobile needed, so that rules out 'free SIM'. Hmm...
The only other option is 'free Anytime calls' for 12 months. But she already has that as a (chargeable) boost. Is it too much to presume that TT will now offer her this to her free, even though she already has the service?
If not, I suppose it would be be necessary to cancel the Anytime boost and then immediately reapply for it as a free upgrade...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

  • Well since the cyber attack you will all remember Dido Harding saying that TalkTalk want to give us all something free for the trouble and inconvenience???? PMSL this is how much they value us as Loyal customers. Looking at what's on offer ie 1 free film (for 48hours) including films, kids, entertainment or Sky Sports free for 3 months lol, Unlimited UK landline or mobile calls, most of us already have this, A free sim again this is something some of us already had access to and the offer to have a complimentary broadband and Wi-Fi health check which shouldn't be needed if they did their job correctly. So what is it that TalkTalk are giving their loyal customers??????

I didn't expect much TBH, but the free Anytime is worth £90pa, so it's the better of the various options.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • But I wonder if that will end if your contract with them ends before the 12 months even if you renew ?

What does the free SIM option involve? My EE contract is up and I was wondering if I could use the TalkTalk free SIM as a bargaining tool.
  • I think its only available to talktalk customers with the Plus TV package.

I'm in same position as OP mil. So it's the free sim - but my phone is dodgy so would need to buy a new one - or the landline calls.

Neither seems much of a reward for all those hours of angst and constant checking of bank accounts.

It will run from 12m from when you apply for the free upgrade. The contract does not end, only the minimum term does. Do nothing and it continues on a 30 day notice basis.
However it is not clear if by accepting such an upgrade, you start a new minimum term.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • It does say..............Whichever free upgrade you choose, we guarantee that when it comes to an end, we'll remove it from your account - no strings attached.

The FREE calls is to landlines OR mobiles and is only for 12 months
Read the webpage carefully and see what you make of the word OR ....

The Free SIM has its limits as well
You have had to sign up to a 30 day rolling contract, after the 12 months free of 100 mins, 250 texts free and 200mb of data, they will charge you £5 a month for the allowance. The customer has to give talktalk 30 days notice of cancellation to avoid the £5 monthly charge, when 12 months free allowance period ends.
And of course during the 12 months free, any calls, texts and data used outside of the allowance will cost a fortune and will rake in talktalk even more money out of customers.
  • That's loyalty for you
