This is all I get and I don`t want to fill it in and click submit and then can`t choose the amount and when.

Think that was the page I had, the other options must have appeared after the submit, but cant be sure. I would have just submitted it anyway and if I did not like the payment schedule they set I believe you can change it. Most suppliers do not let you choose the amount you pay so it would not have put me off submitting it.

I think some people used the "forgotten password" link with their email address to get into their account. (I'm not ex-Avro, just trying to help with Octopus stuff.)

Snap!!  Don’t know why (nice) folk here are jumping the gun (as it were). I’ve had 2 emails from Octupussy but nothing since 29/9.
They are sorting out the accounts( half a million) and it takes time… I’ve got gas/ electric…I will wait and let THEM tell me what my account number is etc and only then will I go to the account and play with amounts and dates.

You'll need to set up a DD before you can vary it?
@millie perhaps you can only change your DD ever so often (once a month?) so they're hiding the option until it's next available?

Aren't some on here - again - still thinking in "fixed" mode?
My Octopus DD is marked up as
    "Monthly amount

    Variable"

Fear not. We aren't jumping the gun, we're just inquisitive. Not much else to do, really. :)

I agreed with Octopus that they debit my a/c for each month's consumption, no more and no less, and keep the balance at zero.  Sure it's variable but saves all the ...ing around with credit and debit balances and winter consumption stargazing. Makes it easier to monitor also.

For accounts opening at this time of year that arrangement probably suits them right down to the ground. I wonder how easy it would (normally) be to set up such an arrangement if joining them in Spring.
