Before their collapse, I would submit my meter readings to Avro on 7th.

Is there any point, or will those of us recently switched, have 26th as their billing date?

Follow the advice given in the FAQ's here https://avroenergy.co.uk/ which is mirrored in the advice given by Octopus. As long as you enter meter readings for the 26th September you do not need to do anything further.
I can't answer the billing date question as that information has not as yet been forthcoming from Octopus. Similarly for Avro customers who cancelled their Direct Debit with Avro but who have set up a new Direct Debit with Octopus no information has been provided by Octopus as to which date the new DIrect Debit will be taken from your bank.

If you don’t have a smart meter, you can submit meter readings at anytime on the App or online and Kraken will generate a statement based on that reading. Those of us with smart meters get a statement once a month.
    Thanks both.

Submitted my readings on 26th & @ 7th Sept we were more than £200 in credit so I’ll just wait for further instructions from Octopus.

Must have used a fair bit of gas today when electrician fitting new fire, nicked (weirdly routed) gas pipe😨.  Took several minutes for him to shut off supply.

Nobody hurt but it did hit home just how easily lives can be devasted. A few extra ££ on our bills pales into insignificance.

  • UPDATE 8PM THURSDAY 7TH OCTOBER

Next week, we will start to send, very slowly and carefully, final bills to every Avro customer to close down their accounts with Avro. These bills will be dated from the last bill they received from Avro, up to and including the 26th September (the day when Avro went out of business). These bills will use the rates that customers were on until Avro went out of business and the meter readings customers have given us over the last couple of weeks.

As these final bills are created and sent, we will start migrating Avro customers officially over to our systems. (So when a customer's final bill is triggered, this will trigger that customer being fully moved to our system.). Any remaining credit from Avro accounts will be moved to Octopus Energy accounts and will appear there. We will also confirm your individual rates (though Avro customers will be moved onto our Flexible Octopus tariff, which is currently £10 under the price cap. This is currently cheaper than anything else available from any other large supplier and also cheaper than the fixed prices we're currently offering new customers on our website).

This final bill and Octopus Energy account set-up process will take a few weeks to complete. It's a complex thing and involves both Avro and Octopus Energy systems to work precisely, and we are working hard to get it right.

Nobody wanted Avro to go under but if Octopus does as it says above then we`ve got off lightly compared to some of the horror stories we`ve seen when a supplier goes bust.
Can`t see there`s anywhere to go for the next six months and probably long after that.
On the face of it Octopus seems to be getting on with it.

All through this energy crisis I`ve never once heard anything in the media about north sea gas.
    Have they gone bust too?

" ... I`ve never once heard anything in the media about north sea gas..." Such an obvious question that there must be an (obvious) answer - which is not obvious to me and I'd be interested to know.  Something to do with global supply and diminishing output from the North Sea I suspect but now if ever there was a time would be the time to reactivate borderline gas fields. Unless of course we put environmental aspects before warm homes.

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know

Reactivating an oil or gas field takes years, not days. For example I'm sure that if Shell could switch Brent Alpha, Bravo and Delta back on they would, but the platforms have been removed and cut up.

I have been impressed the way OctopusEnergy have handled things so far. I was able to log into their website which showed an account number and most of my details. I have been able to set up my direct debit and choose an amount and date it is paid. I had cancelled the Avro one. I have set it to £100 as I have £250 credit with Avro and we have been kept updated daily
  • The situation is less rosy for customers who were mid switch to Avro at the time of their collapse. I have still not heard a thing from Octopus and I have no idea when my old supplier will get opening readings.

Are you still receiving energy through pipes and wires, as applicable? Then relax, it will all get sorted out.

I am keen to get a final bill from my old supplier as soon as possible, I don't want that credit balance tied up with yet another SoLR if they go under.
