  • Initiated a switch from Green to Avro 3 weeks ago,  email received yesterday morning from Avro saying switch is going ahead today.    Checked on Find my suppliers today & we are with Green for Gas still & Avro for Electric.
Have £159 credit with Green & Avro already took 1st DD of £144, so guess I may get moved to 2different SOLR’s along with the credit balances?

    anyone have any ideas?
  • I’ve been with Avro for several years,...my son and daughter likewise. Never had any issues whatsoever,...until now that is. Each of us has a credit balance of around £200.

Avro’s demise has been inevitable for a couple of weeks now and the collapse of the remaining ‘minnows’ is well and truly underway.

I don’t believe for one minute that any customer henceforth, Avro or otherwise, will ever have their FULL credit balance returned, irrespective of the ‘Protection’ guarantees that are currently in place.

The credit balances are funded by the SOLR;...given the present turmoil where is that mountain of cash needed to refund  outstanding credit going to come from?

I think we’ll be lucky to see 50% of our credit returned,...perhaps less. All bets are off at the moment,...imho of course.

If it turns out that you are correct then there will be an even bigger s***storm directed at the Ofgem and the safeguards supposedly in place for failed suppliers as this goes against Ofgem's FAQ on 'what happens if your energy supplier goes bust'.

I'm going to go by what is in print and will assume that we will get credits dealt with at some point in the future.

The Find My Supplier website apparently takes up to 72 hours to update for the gas supply changeover.  I'm in kind of the same situation.  Avro supply started on 21st September for me, but the website still shows my previous supplier for gas. So most likely with the gas it's just not updated yet and Avro are actually your supplier for both.

I phoned the electricity board for my region today and was advised Avro are listed as my supplier for electricity (with electricity they can tell you who your supplier is in real time).  So that just further confirmed to me that the find my supplier website is a little bit out of date.

Despite the legislation and the OFGEN guarantees I reckon they’ll be making up the rules as they go along  from here on in.

    We're virtually on a war-footing, atm.  :D

Predicting anything in the current circumstances is, to say the least, a bit tricky but in the normal course of events gas usually takes longer to switch than electricity so that's why they appear to be split at the moment. If you are in the midst of a dual-fuel switch then both fuels should be ultimately switched to the appointed SoLR in due course.
For the time being, just sit back and wait until the SoLR contacts you. Holding your breath for this event, however, is not to be recommended.

So we saved a little bit with Avro, until they crashed. Now we will have no choice who we end up with in the short term. Plus, no choice in the amount we are charged.
A never ending swap energy providers, swap broadband, swap banks and hunt out better savings interest.
Jumping through hoops all the time. Surely, life should be more simple?
  • It's called "competition" and, in principle, is supposed to keep prices as cheap as possible (in normal circumstances).

Back in the not so distant past, there was a time when energy and water supplies were nationalised.
Life was more simple then, but was it cheap?
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

You can make it simpler by just picking a supplier for each of those services and never moving.  It's a question of how much you value price over hassle.  Personally, I'd rather put the effort in and leave those that don't want to, to subsidise my lower prices or better interest rates.  The more that adopt the simpler life, the better deals I might be able to access.

Gotta say, I was feeling nostalgic for the days of nationalised leccy and gas yesterday and, with the rate at which smaller energy suppliers are dying like flies, I wonder just how much competition there really is left, or will be a year from now:  NPower were assimilated into e.on, Ovo (I think) now own SSE; the traditional "Big 6" are no more and some johnny-come-lately firms are now much bigger.

It seems SVTs are no longer automatically the most expensive tariffs once you factor in the price cap and some firms are no longer offering them anyway, if you believe what you read on this thread.  I used to feel I knew what I was doing with energy suppliers, at least, but am wondering quite where to go from here.  Even some of the larger firms are taking the first DD upfront when they never used to; what does that say about their stability?

The cheapest fix will, inevitably, be what..?  50% per cent more at the very least?  Is it still worth fixing for a year?  I really don't know at the moment.  It is a horrible thing to have to admit but... Should'a stayed with e.on, however much their CS also sucks; at least, they answer the phone sometimes.
