I think the reasoning behind the advice not to cancel the DD is really aimed at those who are struggling to pay. Continuing to pay the DD to the administrators during the transfer will help to avoid being thrown into a debt crisis when the SoLR takes over the energy account.
This is actually a very good point, that I've generally been glossing over. Most direct debit customers of small suppliers are paying ahead, and in credit. This is particularly true as we are just coming out of the summer where such customers have been typically "overpaying" their usage to build up credit for the winter (willingly, or not). However, debt is worth mentioning.

Assuming the SoLR chooses to take over the debt, and they are not required to, the new supplier would be bound by the regulator (as normal) in the way they can collect any debt, in a way that is "affordable" and "fair". In that scenario, I'd still suggest that it could be preferential to have the money in hand and be able to pay the new supplier directly, not waiting for your balance to be applied to your new account. However, if the SoLR does not take over the debt, the administrators are not bound by such obligations and may chose to chase the debt far more aggressively.

I believe it's Avro's old website before they "upgraded" to the newer version. From what I've seen posted on other threads I believe it only works and has full details/data for customers who were registered on the old version before Avro upgraded to the newer version and have continued with Avro without a break.

Why would the administrators set up a "get a quote" page?

That would make sense. I've been with them a couple of years. Been able to get current credit balance and recent statements off there which is great. Have submitted meter readings as my estimates have been far too low, but not sure what impact that will have

The intention is to give former customers access to their accounts information, I would suggest.

  • Looking on the bright side (yes, I think I found one!), if it's going to take several months to set up new accounts with the SoLR then by that time this energy crisis may have subsided and it will be easier to find somewhere to switch to. We live in hopes!

Managed to log in without issue (Thanks for the link) and surprisingly my credit is more than I thought, showing £299, of course this doesn't include this months usage but I'm thinking the new SoLR will be on top of this at some stage.

If you've cancelled your DD then it seems that putting aside something like 50% more each month may be needed to cover the period until the SoLR gets on top of it. This is based on E.on Next current prices for me.
