So my monthly DD set up with Avro will still be taken each month, even though I am £156 in credit.
Elsewhere it states I should not cancel the DD until new account set up and credit returned.0 -

Elsewhere it states I should not cancel the DD until new account set up and credit returned.I therefore decided to cancel my direct debit at the bank to prevent further payments vanishing down a black hole uneccessarily.

The DD is made out only for Avro.
I`m in credit with Avro but I`ve cancelled my DD.
Whoever takes over will contact me and ask me to set up a DD for them with the new (higher) amount.
I would have thought the new supplier can only start charging their new rate when they take over and you give them your meter readings at that time.
The usage from your last billing statement, until the new supply is started, at the moment, is in limbo.
There are plenty of suppliers that have gone under surely someone must know about what happens regarding that usage.1 -

If you cancel it, they will have to contact you and ask you to create a new one.2010 said:I would have thought the new supplier can only start charging their new rate when they take over and you give them your meter readings at that time.

Consumption up to 31st Jan was charged at GNE's tariffs, consumption after that date at EDF's.You can see on the bill that my payments to GNE in Jan, Feb, Mar and Apr were all taken into account.Any questions?N. I read the OGFEM advice and it says I can cancel direct debit, didn't say I had to though, a person on the news last night said don't. (caught the interview part way in and not sure who she was).
Cancelled mine on the understanding that a new firm will contact me to set up a new one (again, OFGEM advice) I don't really know a lot about direct debits in this instance and have been stung by roll over stuff in the past and don't want that again.0 -
@QrizB
Thanks for the above.
Basically I`ll pay Avro rate up to 22nd Sept and whoever`s rate from the 22nd Sept.
I`ll study your bill when I have more time, Thanks.
Getting back to the DD, as stated I have cancelled mine and I`m well in credit with Avro and when the new supplier contacts me I`ll set up a new DD.0 -

So the readings were estimated for the 31st Jan when GNE went bust or did EDF ask what the readings were that day?

I cancelled my DD with Avro as soon as I heard the news of their demise. I am around £260 in credit with them and whether I was right or wrong to cancel I couldn't care less. I'll set up a DD with the new supplier when they ask me to and hope they credit the new account quickly with the balance I had with Avro. Up until that happens, nothing to do but wait.3

I think the reasoning behind the advice not to cancel the DD is really aimed at those who are struggling to pay. Continuing to pay the DD to the administrators during the transfer will help to avoid being thrown into a debt crisis when the SoLR takes over the energy account.
