  • My next DD is due in 2 days will/should Avro still take it?

The DD call was probably set up a few days ago so may well go through.
You can cancel it at your bank now or leave it to appear as a credit on the SoLR account in due course.
Either way you shouldn't lose the money.

  • Thanks Consumerist, I have cancelled it as I have enough credit to cover any charges for the current month.   We’ll see what happens.  Taken photos of current meter readings.

Have I got this right?  According to Citizens Advice, pre-October, only Utility World, Spark, Ebico, Octopus and Igloo are offering non-capped tariffs - and they are all variable rates?

Igloo stopped signups yesterday, reported to be going bust
Ebico/Octopus  removed variable rate tariff  from quote page week or so ago

    Hi.
Any thoughts…I’m in the middle of a switch to Avro (due to switch tomorrow) but they’ve already taken my first direct debit of £211…I had only just given them my meter readings this morning.
I suppose I just have to sit tight and see how it plays out? I’m still £600 in credit with Igloo, who I’m supposed to be leaving. Currently cruising out at sea so can’t phone Igloo for advice either.
At this stage you already have an account opened with Avro so funds in that account should be passed to the SoLR and should show as a credit to your SoLR account in due course.

    Thanks for the reply.
the supplier we are moving from are Igloo.
I’ve heard that they are in trouble too. I’m £600 in credit with them and have been trying to get some of my money back for weeks (hence the switch)
if they go bust, is my £600 protected too? The kept putting my direct debit up and I could never get to talk to anyone to sort it out.

It looks as though your money might be bounced about a bit but it should eventually find its way to Avro Energy's SoLR.
<MSE's article> may help with more info.

One of the things I liked about Avro was that they set my direct debit at a realistic level and did not change it. I was never more than £150 in credit with them and only £37 in credit when they went bust. However, reading some posts on these boards, other Avro customers had a different experience,
    If in doubt... do nowt.

Just shows you are one of the millions who do not need the help you get from the taxpayers.  Excuse me if I don't care you might miss out this year.  For those of us who are supposed to merit the WHD no matter what, I am somewhat concerned.
There is no help 'from the taxpayers'. The WHD is funded by the energy supplier, not the government - there's a clue in it not being offered by some suppliers - and the core group get paid first. Time to get off that high horse before you fall off.
