  • Hi All,

Just in process of switching to Avro, I am still within cooling off period, supply due to switch on 6th Oct, so theoretically can cancel and remain on current Shell Flexible 6 tariff, or check the market for any alternatives (however poor they maybe).  Any advice of best approach under the current circumstances.

Also, who would I contact to cease the switch now that Avro is no more? Is this even is the best course of action, or is it best to leave things to proceed?

    Thoughts appreciated and thanks all.
Since Avro has ceased trading it/they can no longer cancel the switch for you, unfortunately.

If the SVR is capped, it will work out cheaper than some of the rates currently available. In fact, some providers such as British Gas have even withdrawn their SVR rates and are only signing up new customers to their more expensive fixed tariffs.
Fortunately, any deemed tariff offered by a SoLR has to be one you can switch from without penalty.

  • My switch to Avro Energy is due to complete in 8 days. Will my switch be cancelled?
If you are in the 14 days cooling off period I believe you can cancel the switch. However what email do you send it to?  If you send it to them at less the email is proof you tried. Worth checking D/D as they take it on the 12th day, your bank can refund this and cancel future D/D.
  • I would definitely contact your old supplier (assuming they are still trading) and ask them to block the switch.
  • does anyone know what will happen with trues up meter readings? Will this be at AVRO rate or SOLR? I think my estimates are really low because we heated swimming pool in garden this summer and that is not yet reflected.
  • Ah well, no £140 Warm Home Discount for me this season.

Does that not depend?  If you are core group and it still exists, you must be entitled to it though who knows how much of a fight we will face to get it?  If you are broader group, I would suggest contacting whoever takes us over.

  • Hi.
Any thoughts…I’m in the middle of a switch to Avro (due to switch tomorrow) but they’ve already taken my first direct debit of £211…I had only just given them my meter readings this morning.
I suppose I just have to sit tight and see how it plays out? I’m still £600 in credit with Igloo, who I’m supposed to be leaving. Currently cruising out at sea so can’t phone Igloo for advice either.

I'm in the broader group and Avro had pretty lax qualifications - last year I qualified by having a gross annual household income of £16,190 or less and being aged over 64. Got a £140 credit for two years and was never asked for supporting evidence.
Applications opened around the start of the first week of October so they won't this year and it's loss won't affect me.
  • Deary me, just yesterday I was saying how reasonably priced Avro were, and now they're out of business!
Say hello to a disgustingly expensive new tariff from the new supplier / whichever one I end up switching to!
