  • Terrible company to deal with. I notified them I was moving home 1 month ago and despite many phone calls and emails they have not refunded the nearly £400 credit on my account despite comiting to do so within 10 working days.
  • This resurrects the perennial question: Without knowing your actual true monthly spend with Avro, how the ... has the credit balance been "allowed" to grow to £400? If not to use this to keep the co afloat. And what you can / could do to reclaim this or could have done to prevent it. If nothing else this would leave you out of pocket during any transition to a SOLR which is not reasonable IMHO.

How so? Ofgem state that the new supplier will pay back the outstanding credit you have with the old supplier.
  • "... during any transition ...." assuming you have to make an opening payment to the new supplier and/or that the refund of the old credit balance takes time. Either assumption could be wrong of course.

  • TL;DR is it correct that a DD is required to be on a fixed rate with Avro?

I've been with Avro since 2017, I've recommended them to others as it's a basic but effective service and they always put me onto a better deal if requested.  That changed last year when they started insisting the contracted price should run to its conclusion (fair enough).  What really started to annoy me was when I last renewed the contract a few months back they insisted on putting me onto a 30% inflated DD despite my account being in credit and me specifically asking them not to.  They said their finance team would be in touch and we did have some email correspondence but they seemed to play intentionally dumb so I'm now a few hundred quid in credit.  And their SLA for responding is a shocking 15 working days.  When I threatened to cancel the DD and pay by another method they claimed that a DD is required to be on a fixed deal.  Anyone know if that's correct?

That is my understanding too. It's in their Ts&Cs that you pay by monthly direct debit.

  • Unless I've made an error I can't see Avro on the Cheap Energy Club comparison any more. Does this mean they have pulled out of the market for new customers?
  • It's long been a complaint that Avro Energy is not listed on MSE's CEC if you are already their customer. You can see tariff details at <Avro> if you put in your postcode.

More likely means Cheap Energy Club is not getting any commission from Avro for instigating switches.

Could well be that Avro are still paying commission if they gain a customer from another company via the CEC, but not for a tariff swap by an existing Avro customer.
Hiding deals offered by your existing supplier makes a nonsense of the CEC's ethical claims to show all suppliers.
