I just logged on and everything is showing as normal. I have £300 in credit but am not at all worried about it. I was with a company before that went bust and got all my money back

I can confirm that the grass isn't always greener.
I could have renewed with Avro in July at £120 per month, but decided to switch to PFP for £112 per month. I was also expecting to receive a referral bonus of £50 this month, so average price I would be paying over the next 12 months was due to be around £108pm).

Six weeks in and PFP has gone bust. Looking at alternatives yesterday and the cheapest price for my usage is currently £138 per month (Avro quote £139pm). So switching to a cheaper deal has cost me nearly £200 more than staying with Avro over the next year.

My dilemma now is whether the switch back to Avro, given their Ofgem warning, or whether to pay a few pounds more each month and go with a 'big five' name in the hope they are less likely to go bust.
  • My first reaction would be check the reading actually submitted in my online account. It seems possible you may have mistyped the electricity meter reading.
Just checked. No mistake made by me. Thanks anyway. By the way nowhere on the website can I see what the letters mean ref readings. Obviously E means estimate but what is N ?..

Wonder why they ignored my submitted Elec meter reading? Will update when they respond.

From an Avro posting on social media in 2018:
An 'N' or 'C' read is a customer read, an 'E' is an estimated read, and an 'R' read is a read taken by a meter reader.
In other words, they don't really know.

I'm in my 3rd year with Avro and no issues to date - touching wood!   I am currently in credit - what happens if they do go bust - do I lose that credit?
No. The SoLR will refund your closing credit balance (eventually).

Ofgem has ordered Avro Energy to provide financial and other information related to the company’s activities.

The energy market regulator said it requested the information on 19th August.

Ofgem ordered the company to act immediately upon the request and engage in “constructive discussions” about their financial projections.

Failure to provide the financial information could translate to a breach of Avro Energy’s licence conditions, Ofgem said.

It could also result in further enforcement, including a fine or a licence cancellation.

It is estimated that the company has currently 40,000 electricity and 30,000 gas customers.

ELN has contacted Avro Energy for a response.

    Things could get spicy soon.

Things have been spicy with Avro for a few years now. They have tried just about every trick in the book to stay competitive and it would be a shame to lose them. My longer-term concern is that the majors will gobble up the minnows until we are back to the bad old days of limited competition in the market with no viable way for new start-ups to get a foot hold.
We''ll miss them when they're gone.
