  • Just for info Avro are on a warning from Ofgem re providing financial info - https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/ofgem-orders-avro-energy-provide-financial-information
I left Avro at the start of the year (Jan/Feb) to move to Utility Point, and getting my final credit balance repaid by Avro was very slow, though I got £60 compensation in the end (May) for their failure to meet Ofgem timescales.
And now Utility Point have stopped trading!

I have build up a credit balance of over £350. Is there a way to request that this is paid to me (despite the upcoming more expensive winter months) as I'd rather have the funds in my account than in Avro's especially as various utility companies have recently stopped trading?

If your credit balance represents more than the amount of 2 - 3 months' DDs then you should be able to get some of it refunded if you ask them. Otherwise it is likely you will use most of your credit over the coming winter.
Any credit balance you have if Avro ceases trading will be refunded by the SoLR supplier so it will be safe.

Yes I had spotted that too. I've just done an internet search and seen they were spanked by Ofgem in June. I wonder - as a customer - if the end is in sight, given all the adverse comment on here in recent months....
  • Unfortunately there appear to be many similarities in the financial situations of recently failed companies with the current financial profile of Avro by reference to its filed accounts.

The last available financial information is at 30 June 2019 in the form of audited financial statements filed on 30 June 2020. In other words, there has been no published financial information for two years! This in itself is not irregular as the 2020 accounts are not techincally late so long as they are filed before 30 September 2021.

Realistically however, this is hard to fathom given that the company was totally insolvent at 30 June 2019 and it would be reasonable to assume that in such a position, it would be expected to file subsequent accounts early to provide the market with confidence that the financial position had been recovered and the company was stable. In the absence of such accounts, one can only speculate that the position is not improved and could well have deteriorated even further.

Perhaps a case of "watch this space"?
  • It might be time to jump ship. But where? I would think most of the smaller competitive suppliers are in much the same boat at the moment.

It could be more complicated being caught mid-transfer when a company goes bust than waiting for Ofgem to appoint a new supplier.

I started a transfer from EDF to Avro a couple of days ago. Now I'm wondering if I should cancel!

I'm in the same boat. I'm in the process of switching and I've been stuck at the last stage for quite a while (industry meter readings). This has meant that they've taken my first payment even though I'm still with my old supplier. If they go bust will I get my money back I wonder?

  • I and, am sure, many others have no wish or desire to even think of using Twitface for anything. So for them to make that an easier avenue of potential communication is wrong, in my opinion.
Rather that concentrate on Faceache they should divert some of their, probably, depleted staff to chat, phone and e-mail communication.
