Well, you might be able to see what profits they declare but it would take someone with more financial knowledge than I, and probably most, would have to determine whether the business is viable.phillw said:

That has neatly pre-empted what I was about to say myself. Considering that this is an on-going topic one would hope (in vain??) for some kind of rough comparative indication of financial status from the search engine rankings or CAB.Telegraph Sam

I don't know why or when i started a new tariff in January as I always used to do it outside winter months. Yes, I should hopefully recoup it in the summer as d/d going from £76 to £90 going from superflow to superpremium. I think I know what did it too this year as my usage hasn't varied much for years before this......2 kids at home for 5/6 months from start of first lockdown as opposed to a normally empty house! Think my electricity usage went up by circa 20% and in fairness took my eye of the ball with readings!Consumerist said:johnbhoy70 said:Anyone else, like me, running a slight debit balance here?? Everyone seems to be running in credit, some to fairly decent amounts.A slight debit should not be too much to worry about immediately but may be a signal to watch your account. If you opened your tariff in the winter months and are paying by direct debit then it is to be expected that by now you will have a debit balance. If the supplier thinks it might be serious then they should increase your DD in due course. The question to answer is: Are you likely to recoup the debit during the warmer months of your tariff's term.0 -
I would not rule out challenging an increase in D/D in principle if it appears unrealistic rather than leave it to the supplier's "algorithms" to do it for you or me by default!Telegraph Sam

Would usually agree but we've used more this year plus now going onto a more expensive deal. They'll not be far away was my initial thought. I'll watch it for the next couple of months and if a better deal comes along in the summer I'll jump.Telegraph_Sam said:I would not rule out challenging an increase in D/D in principle if it appears unrealistic rather than leave it to the supplier's "algorithms" to do it for you or me by default!0 -
Gross profits at £280k (maybe £1 a customer... so essentially selling you the power at cost)Consumerist said:

Pre-tax losses at £28 million.... So no... the business isn't really viable. However if investors keep pumping cash in and they keep customers credit levels high enough, they should be able to keep going.
It's worth noting that as a comparison, Bulb's last accounts had them at a £130m loss.0 -
If you've recently switched tariff with Avro, it might be a better idea to make a one-off card payment in the next month or two so your account comes into a small credit. You will then be in a better position to switch to another provider if a better deal comes along in the Spring. Avro may well object to you switching to another supplier if you have a debit balance at the time of the request.johnbhoy70 said:

Actually that's a good idea, cheers! I'll bear that in mind should something come along.Consumerist said:

I’ve been offered a renewal with Avro, Simple and SuperPremier, but it’s not on the Cheap Energy Club list, can anyone explain why ?0

No one seems to quite know why.I thought that the SuperPremier tariff had been withdrawn and replaced by SuperSwitcher but there you go. That's Avro.
