I emailed Avro last night about my bill using estimated readings and they replied this morning to say that they had re-issues my statement to use the correct readings
Which begs the obvious questions: why didn't their computer system use your correct readings in the first place, and why did it require contact from you to get this put right?  It's quite annoying to have to be "on the ball" (as many people aren't) to ensure you're not ripped off.  :/

They did also say, regarding the smart meters:
Unfortunately, although we are able to take remote meter readings, the process is not yet automatic. We hope to have the automatic process set up within the next couple of months but in the meantime, you can continue to submit the meter readings manually or we can take the readings remotely at your request.

Thanks, useful to know, although I have to say, I won't be having smart meters installed until their use is standardised across the whole industry so they don't go "dumb" because you happen to switch to a supplier (like Avro!) who aren't set up to cope with them automatically.  If it's really desirable for all householders to have smart meters, the regulator shouldn't allow new energy companies to enter the market until they've proven they can handle this technology.
  • I too am on 'Simple and superfixed' until 21/02 paying £94 a month which in hindsight is looking like I've had a great deal. Just looked at renewal with Avro and they're offering me 'Simple and superpremier' and £147 a month so a fair hike in price. I've done all the usual price comparisons (Quite like the Citizens advice site) and I'm not seeing any saving, even trying separate suppliers and although slightly cheaper than duel fuel still no big savings and nothing available for under £120 a month.

Bit stuck now on what to do, take Avro's expensive renewal quote with the option of being able to move IF I can find a better deal (not holding my breath on that one) won't cost me because there are no exit fees OR just move anyway because I begrudge paying Avro £147 a month for the same Gas and Electric I was paying £94 for.

I agree with sentiment on here though that it looks like prices are only going one way at the moment and the deals we're currently being offered might? look like a bargain in a few months!

I don't think a collective switch is due until March though and prices are heading up, so I thought it best to hedge my bets with a new fix.
Can someone tell me anything more about the (possible) collective switch in March?  Who is sponsoring it etc.

I doubt that energy suppliers are likely to commit to a collective switch at the moment. All we can do for now, I think, is wait for energy prices to settle.
At the moment the industry is trying to adjust to an expected high level of customer debt.

  • I am an Avro customer. Just to clear things up a little I did email them about my renewal ( due next week) and the replied that USupersave and MSuperssave are not available to existing customers.
Also I clicked on renewal quote last week and was quoted for SimpleandsuperPremium but today I am quoted for SimpleandSuperPremier which is a little more expensive.
I personally believe they are trying to confuse customers but also it seems prices are going up the nearer you leave it to renew.
Having said that, they are still the best price(for me anyway)
  • And just to clear things up a little more, USupersave and MSupersave are not available to new customers either (!) - unless there is a differentiation by region - just the SuperPremier which is on the pricey side.
When I switched to my current world-beating Octopus tariff I believe it was courtesy of a MSE "collective". I'm hoping that they will be able to repeat the trick in the next month or two.

Just to confuse matters a little more, Avro's site indicates (today) that the following tariffs are 'currently available' to some people somewhere in energy region 10 :-
    Simple Energy
    Simple Energy PAYG
    Simple and USuperSavvy12M
    Simple and mSuperSavvy12M
    Simple and USuperFlow12m
    Simple and mSuperFlow12m
    Simple and mSuperSelect12M
    Simple and USuperSelect12M
    Simple and USuperSaver12M
    Simple and mSuperSaver12M
    Simple and USuperGlow12M
    Simple and SuperPremier

As others have posted, I can only wish you good luck finding some of them. I have only been offered Simple and SuperPremier.
