  • I am on original Simple and SuperFixed for a bit longer, ran the quotes and only offered Simple and SuperPremier at a £100 a month more, due to far higher rates. I won't be clicking on that, will be going elsewhere no doubt.
On the good front, their installer came back today and actually managed to commission both smart meters properly onto the network and IHD. A mere 2 visits and about 8 hours labour is all it took!

Are you sure that's £100 per month more?

  • Yes, that does seem to be the logical explanation (I was quoted it on 8th Jan) and to be fair, I've never gone looking for SuperPremium before so it could have been around for a while and, as you say, only very recently withdrawn.  SuperPremier would be more expensive for me too.  However, I do wonder why Avro didn't quote me for the two (still available) tariffs that the CA website show as the cheapest for me - Simple and MSuperSavvy12M and Simple and USuperSavvy12M - but I've now emailed Avro to ask, so we'll see what they say.  Maybe it'll turn out that I should trust Avro when they say they continuously offer their customers the cheapest tariffs available.   ;)
My guess would be that Simple and MSuperSavvy12M is only available via moneysupermarket and Simple and USuperSavvy12M is only available via uSwitch.
I like your logic, but sadly not.  The only Avro tariff coming up on uSwitch is SuperPremier - not even the SuperPremium I've been quoted by Avro, and neither of the two SuperSavvy tariffs which Avro's website show as still available.  I'll double-check MoneySupermarket again, but I used these two comparison sites plus ComparetheMarket and GoCompare when I did my original options trawl over a week ago and none of them gave me these Avro tariffs then either.
Perhaps the SuperPremium is only available in some regions.
As posted earlier, it appears at the bottom of Avro's huge tariff list and is not indicated as '(currently available)' to my postcode.
    Edit
I notice that <Energylinx>  lists the SuperPremium as a tariff which is no longer available.

Hmmm, I hadn't considered that Avro's tariffs could be region-specific, but it could certainly explain the different tariffs people are being offered when they're renewing within a few weeks of each other.
I've just double-checked MoneySupermarket and no Avro tariffs are listed in the comparison results at all.  (Although I still like your logic for what the "U" and the "M" could stand for in two tariffs which in all other respects are identical),

Very similar. I'm on Simple and Superfixed and a move to SuperPremier will be a little over £89 more. Two days ago when I got a quote from Avro's site it was around £22 cheaper. The good thing about avro is zero exit fees.

    Sorry, that's £89 per year.
I'm not getting  much joy from comparison sites. I'm even trying quidco.

Yes, this is the first year for a long time when I haven't felt I could pat myself on the back for getting a cracking deal.  :'(

Yes per month currently £130 per month, quote was £234, but Avro tend to pitch high with their monthly instalments then I have to email and say look, I am building too much credit and they slash it. The SuperPremier rates are substantially more expensive than Superfixed though.
  • Re regional differences: No sign of Avro in the uSwitch rankings for the North East.
I couldn't get the MSM site to work - wouldn't scroll forward. Anyone else got the same problem?
    Telegraph Sam

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know

Well, that's a huge increase by any standard - unless the DD in winter months is set higher than in summer months.
