My (Win8) system already shows file extensions. The problem is that downloading any file-name which includes a space character ignores the space and anything following it unless it is represented in a %20% (space) format.

@thorganby There are a lot of fingers pointing at Firefox.@youravinalarrrf The issue is the truncation of the file spec at the first occurence of a space character, not how data is shown on-screen. I use the feature you mention, but it doesn't overlap with this issue.

Those Google search results are all for old versions.
What Firefox version are you using?
Opening the the file MonthlyStatement 01_09_2020.pdf works perfectly as expected for me and it seems to work fine for others, so it was understandable that Avro ignored your pointless request to add the ext pdf to their statements and it definitely points to a configuration problem on your machine and not a Firefox issue.

Perhaps the solution is to first open the file in Firefox then download the opened pdf. I haven't yet tried this.

@thorganby: 80.0.1 (32-bit)@consumerist: That works, but the filename is not retained. Actually, that is probably what I'll use as I would alter the filename anyway, to be something including Statement, Avro and 20200901Thank you all.

As a spin-off from the preceding can I in conclusion ask what readers' experience generally has been of using pdf readers? I was surprised that no one had mentioned Adobe Acrobat which is the default heavyweight. I have used Sumatra (much quicker) on one PC in the past but it now seems to be blacklisted by my AV if I try to download it to a different PC. I have installed Firefox but very rarely perhaps unfairly use it. If FF is able to digest Avro docs where others cannot then that would be something in its favour.Telegraph Sam

Give Foxit Reader a try.

Adobe is notoriously buggy. Firefox seems to work well, so I can't see any point in using a separate PDF reader any more.1

OK so your Firefox is up to date.
What antivirus are you using?
Your AV may possibly be truncating the filename after the space as this could prevent the execution of a malicious file.

This has been a long-term problem under both the above and, previously, AVAST.Disabling AVG and downloading an AVRO statement still results in the truncation to MonthlyStatement.0
