Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall

I've been on the telephone to various Hotpoint numbers for over TWO HOURS. The 0800 1510905 number I held for 45 minutes said they can't help and gave me the 01733 287860 number which have said (after 26 minutes holding) that the 0800 number should be able to help me. They have put me back on hold to the 0800 number.
COME ON HOTPOINT, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.

The so called "consumer expert" on ITV this morning seems to be totally clueless.
First she moans about the time taken for a repair or to be contacted (which is fair enough as it does seem to take a long time). Makes out this is terrible and the end of the world.
But then the silly moo spewed multiple times that people should not be using the machines at all, obviously not realising that scaremongering people into not using the machines is going to significantly increase repair/contact times as hotpoint will now be flooded with idiots screaming they "can't" use the machine as where told on TV not to...
"consumer editor" my ar**
Fair to say Phillip whatshisface has it spot on that Hotpot are probably working as fast as they can, millions of units affected delays are going to occur. This Mornings consumer expert is only making things worse by scaremongering people telling them not to use the machines as now you've got a whole new set of class A wingers clogging up the phone lines who refuse to use the machine at all or wait for a repair..0 -
I'm guessing I'm one of the lucky ones. Not so much as having had a replacement, but that they did actually ring the week before Christmas unfortunately they wanted information on the machine, and no surprise, I was out shopping. They said they'd ring back.
*Twiddle thumbs*
I received an email too, offering me a machine for £99 - I have yet to spend time to find out if it will do what the one I have does, or if it will fit.
It's terrible customer service however you look at it, though. It constantly falls to the customer to resolve the problem. Not to mention babysit the machine all through winter and the season we are most likely to use it.
Why would I want to buy a replacement from a firm that deals with problems the way Hotpoint has? Why would I want to give them any more of my money?0 -

Absolutely spot-on!
As I've said before in this thread - Hotpoint have compounded the problem by not applying any consistency in how they've responded to customers.
They issued the safety notice - they knew exactly how many machines would be affected.
I agree it must be a logistical nightmare - but it's very difficult to have any sympathy for them.0 -
The information Not to use these faulty machines is also given by electricalsafety.org.uk & ihttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35483330 i sn't this scary enough???0

The second link says
"Consumers can continue to use their tumble dryers, while waiting for a free modification. Until the modification has been made for those that require it, as an extra precaution we are asking that consumers do not leave their dryers unattended during operation (i.e. do not leave the house or leave the dryer on whilst asleep)."0 -
I got an email today saying my modification is not expected until May, but I could buy a £99/£59 replacement, which as mine is pretty old I would have been happy with, but they only have white machines, no option of a silver. So i'll be waiting until May then.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Can anyone who has had a phone call from hotpoint give an idea of what number they call from please? ie if its an 0800 number or the likes as I get so many junk calls per day that I don't answer many of them most of them being related to accidents or ppi!
Like many of you on here I registered the machine as one of the ones affected on 25th Nov, tried calling after the 5 weeks were up but could never get through to anyone, either got cut off or on hold for an hour.
On 2nd Feb I received an email stating they estimate April for the modification or could buy a replacement for £99 for a condenser dryer all good and well but it won't fit into integrated kitchen, am fine to pay it but need to speak to someone about a different model, its hopeless, I have tried facebook messaging them, emailing a complaint through their website and calling, finally spoke to someone in customer services who can do zero because the customer number issued to me by hotpoint does not work!!0 -
West Midlands Fire Service told ITV News Central that there's no evidence to suggest it's one of the tumble dryers which has recently been recalled.0
