Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall

I echo Poppie68's thoughts on this. I'm awaiting a repair and I certainly don't work for Hotpoint and to be honest I'm not happy with the wait time for a repair - HOWEVER I'm able to apply logic and understanding to the situation and wait patiently, getting on with life in the meantime (it's just a tumble dryer after all!).
To put it bluntly, not all, but a considerable amount of people who have posted to this discussion are being completely unreasonable, while I may get flamed for saying so; this is a discussion board and I'm simply expressing my thoughts.
In my view the people being unreasonable are the ones who;
- Outright refuse to wait for a repair and seem to have an over inflated sense of entitlement (I don't to particularly wait for a repair either, but I appreciate that there are thousands also waiting, there isn't much that can be done about it).
- Outright demand a brand new machine and absolutely refuse to even consider a repair (Nothing wrong with asking for a new machine, but don't go around demanding things you're not really entitle to).
- People who aren't happy with a repair, offered a replacement and aren't happy with that either (Okay, I understand that a replacement unit may not fit in your tightly designed kitchen, but that's not Hotpoints fault - the machine would have eventually needed replacing anyway, if your kitchen was designed so tightly that a slightly bigger dryer won't fit then surely that's more of a design issue? Just accept a repair....)
- Phone lines are going to be busy (mostly because the above mentioned people are clogging them up arguing back and forth), better to submit your details and wait for them to contact you.
- Continue using the dryer under supervision as Hotpoint have stated (P.S. nobody is saying you have to pull up a chair and watch it for 4 hours solid, just keep checking on it regularly), if you don't feel comfortable doing that then buy a cheapo clothes horse and realise it isn't the end of the bloody world! [if you have a family of 6 and do 30 loads of washing per day then buy a bigger clothes horse... You're NOT entitled to queue jump or a replacement delivered next day just because you do loads of washing, learn to deal with it].
- If you do get through to someone on the phone, as much as you feel fed up; be nice and co-operative. This works with ALL CALL CENTRES. Understand that the people you are speaking to are bearing the brunt of this entire mess; likely taking call after call for 8 hours solid (mostly from the aforementioned goons ranting and raving at them). If you're nice they'll probably help you more and get you what you want. If you're ranting and raving, demanding xyz or moaning in general then you're just yet another winger, probably the 170th of the day and they're less likely to want to help you.
Basically, understand that these things work both ways and require compromise on both sides.
I don't think you'll get 'flamed' for these comments at all - I agree with them.
You have, however, gone a little too far on a couple of occasions on this thread and made unnecessary comments.0 -
I haven't even bothered to read those rather lengthy responses which are no doubt stabbing those of us who only want our machines to be safe to use, sooner, rather than later. And I certainly won't bother requesting help from this 'forum' again on any issue. Rather disappointed that a lot of other consumers will be put off from requesting assistance on these pages for fear of being attacked & shot down!
On a positive note, following a whole day of trying to get through to a Hotpoint centre who could assist, I have today received a call to advise me that I will be receiving a replacement to the model I currently have - not the exchange model emailed.
I'd advise anyone affected to persevere and continue to call 0800 1510905, or 01733 287860 - don't waste time posting on here and asking for advice!0 -
I've spent nearly an hour on the phone on Saturday, an hour and three quarters to three different numbers yesterday (Monday), and I'm now on my second wait of the day (over 20 mins).
Indesit have told me that, because my machine was less than 12 moths old at the time of the recall, I should have been offered a straight swap by Currys in November. Now in a 25 minute queue to speak to someone at Currys........0 -

Now that is good advice.
Everything that can be said, has been said.
Anyone looking for suggestions on how to progress their situation can surely find that their questions have already been answered.

Had the TDWSF83BEP delivered (took the £99 option to replace our previous one of unknown age as we bought it second hand) on 29th January. Was happy with it for 9 days and then it stopped with an error of F6. after I restarted it there was a rumble and I found there was a lot of play in the drum as though the bearing or bearing carrier was loose. Well the engineer came out to it this morning, had never seen one before, knew nothing about them, he spoke to several other engineers on the phone none of them knew anything either. He eventually spoke to some tech guy who told him the F6 wasnt even used, the serial number format was all wrong so they couldn't find it. It was that new that parts probably aren't available yet so they are exchanging it. again! he also did mention that this model is being made solely to replace the fire risk model yet is for sale on Amazon which he seemed surprised at. I must admit my first thought when offered it was that maybe its some old crap they cant get rid of but its not its only produced from mid January. Odd that you can only buy it from Amazon and no shops though. (someone on here did mention it was the only internet reference to it and it was a recently put up listing which was maybe put up specially? makes you wonder)0

add another !!!!ed off customer to the list.
bought the tumble dryer in 2014 for around £500. registered my details with hotpoint in Nov 15, not heard anything back from them. spent around 5 hours on the phone over the last 2 days trying to speak to someone and all they can offer is an engineer visit in August!!! or buy a replacement for £170. its not even 2 years old, they should be replacing for free as its their fault.
I now have to call 999 and request fire service everytime i use my dryer just incase or risk my house burning down.0 -
I called the number on this link to book a service call and had no problem getting through and booking a repair date for my Indeset Tumble dyer (7 days later and the day before they text with a 2 hour slot). They also have a live chat it might be worth using to book in a repair.

While you're right to be !!!!ed off, there's no need to be melodramatic about it.0 -
I've attempted to get in touch with hotpoint all morning everything I press 1 to speak to someone about my tumble dryer modification the line goes dead.
Absolutely discussing how hotpoint have handled this.
I have a indesit dryer model IDC85 that was less than a year old with an extended warranty at the time of recall so why not just replace it why put it in a long list to be dealt with if they are just replacing them if less than 12 months old.
Instead I've been waiting since December when I registered mine for hotpoint to get in touch with me.0 -

There doesn't seem to be a specific reason for replacement v repair as some older units have been replaced. PM Hotpoint on Facebook it got me a fairly rapid response and repair.0
