Well I finally got through and have told to expect a call the end of June for repair in July also because I purchased my appliance in Nov 14 but didn't register my appliance until Dec 15 I'm not entitled to straight swap under warranty.

But if I'd like to pay £99 I can have a replacement how's about get knotted you had best part of £300 12 months ago for the one I've got oh and £6 a month for your extended warranty.
They are extremely dim in the call centre it took a while to get through to them what a manufacturer extended warranty was.

So you didn't register your appliance for the first year's warranty.

To me, that looks like no-one's fault but yours.

But hey, why not blame everyone else - that's your right.

    No you misunderstand

The appliance was registered for warranty in fact I had a warranty repair carried out I also have the indesit extended warranty.

I registered my appliance for recall in December is what I refer to.

Perhaps I'm also "extremely dim" but I fail to see what an extended warranty has to do with a safety recall?

£99 brand new replacement is about fair, yes you paid £300 for it brand new 12 months ago, but how much do you think a used 300 quid dryer is worth 1 year later - not much more than £150 I suspect...

So if your appliances break within 12 months and the company deemed them beyond economical repair you'd be happy to pay to have a new one because you've used it.

    My argument is

    1. Why should people wait 7 months for a SAFETY recall to be carried out.

    2. I purchased an appliance in good faith from indesit. Indesit knowingly sold me a defective dryer as it is well documented which have been raising concerns over these dryers for years and indesit have ignored their concerns.

    3. The appliance was within the 12 month warranty period when it was recalled why should I pay more money for a defective appliance to be replaced.

You should sit patiently (in front of your dryer) for several months until the nice repair man turns up.
DO NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ring the customer care line as they are incredibly busy caring for other, more deserving customers.
You must remember that expecting the offer of a free replacement that many other customers have already taken advantage of is beyond ridiculous.

    Meanwhile, back to reality...

Get onto Hotpoint support via Twitter, tell them you're not happy with what's been offered thus far, and they should get you sorted as they did with me. I didn't even ask for a free replacement - they offered it to me, they never gave me a specific repair date for my old dryer or asked me to pay for a replacement.

I'd advise anyone affected to persevere and continue to call 0800 1510905, or 01733 287860 - don't waste time posting on here and asking for advice!

Unfortunately this seems to be a pointless exercise too as they either put the phone down or say its a switchboard and transfer you somewhere else, have just come off the phone to Domestic & General after being put through to them by someone from hotpoint repairs team number who answered saying it was the switchboard, despite me saying I have no agreement with D&G or extended warranty!! the kind lady at D&G said she had no idea why hotpoint had transferred me!!

I find you either get cut off or on hold for ages and when you finally speak to someone they tell you there is nothing they can do.

Have been given a repair date of April, unfortunately I missed a call from them earlier grrr

No idea what you're talking about here, who has said the machine is "beyond economical repair?" and no you should not be paying for a new machine in this particular circumstance as there are laws/acts which protect you. But this is nothing to do with the recall at hand.

    My argument is

    1. Why should people wait 7 months for a SAFETY recall to be carried out.
Because everybody is in the same boat, there are thousands of us waiting for a repair. Yes it's a safety issue but the machines are safe to use as long as you regularly check on them whilst in use. Ignore scaremongering from the likes of ITV This Morning suggesting not to use the machine at all. I mean really, nobody has ever suggested "pulling up a chair" and watching the machine for hours on end. Just regularly check in on it. Who on earth goes out of the house and leaves a tumble dryer running anyway?
    2. I purchased an appliance in good faith from indesit. Indesit knowingly sold me a defective dryer as it is well documented which have been raising concerns over these dryers for years and indesit have ignored their concerns.
If it's so "well documented" and has been for years then why did you buy the dryer in the first place? It always takes companies a long time to put together recall programs.
    3. The appliance was within the 12 month warranty period when it was recalled why should I pay more money for a defective appliance to be replaced.
You shouldn't, wait for the repair (see point 1). Nobody is forcing you to pay for a replacement dryer, it's simply an option. To be frank if you absolutely can't wait for a repair (for whatever reason) then pay for the dryer to be replaced. As I suggested before a brand new dryer for £99 isn't exactly unreasonable.

It's all about compromise, Hotpoint can't repair everybodys machine next week just like they can't simply just say "f--- it, lets just give everyone a brand new dryer".

Wait for the free repair whilst continuing to use the machine (supervised) or fork out the replacement cost and get a new one.

Of course the alternative is to spend "all day" on the phone ranting and raving at people every which way possible proclaiming your own self importance multiple times in order to queue jump the rest of us or bargain a free replacement dryer out of them.

Tumble dryers always used to come with a warning never to leave unattended while in use , stands to reason really due to electrics, heat and moisture. I'm sure many a fire has been started this way through the years or an abundance of smoke without a fire actually taking hold, but this recall has got everyone's knickers in a twist....While annoying it needs to be put into perspective.. Nobody's live is going to be ruined because they can't use a dryer, buy a cheap clothes horse and wait for the repair.

If that is the case why does my tumble dryer have a timer on it, so it can be set to come on at a time suitable, i.e., when I am out at work, in bed etc. If they were designed not to be left on alone, then surely Hotpoint etc. would not have put timers on the products!

Why do some always assume that another person works for the business in question if they have a difference of opinion?
I certainly don't work for any company that has anything to do with these dryers, I have an affected machine but can see things clearly enough to put the problem in perspective, it's a tumble dryer not a life support machine.... Annoying maybe but tish happens and Hotpoint (or whoever own the company) are doing their best to rectify the problem as well as deal with normal day to day business.

They are clearly not doing their best. Giving approx. dates of 5 weeks, then changing it from month to month, meanwhile risking people's lives whilst they continue to use the product. Yes normal day to day business for Hotpoint is promoting extended warranties and trying to get customers with faulty / recalled products to buy a nice shiny new machine for £59 / £99 so less work for Hotpoint!

Let's also not forget that it was Whirlpool who did the recall / modification press release, Hotpoint quite happily sat back for several years knowing the machines were faulty and continued to sell them and not modify them!

I suppose to you, that is good customer service.
