  • I can't believe this thread! If you don't have anything constructive to add to consumers' queries then why resort to replying with sarcasm and nastiness for the sake of replying!

Let's not forget that hotpoint knowingly sold these defective dryers for many years and ignored warnings that these dryers were involved in an excessive amount of house fires. Over 750 fires according to which.

I have no sympathy for hotpoint at all they shouldn't of knowingly continued to sell dangerous products.

We have whirlpool to thank for the recall else we'd have never been told of the danger these products pose.

Then we have the continued use well we had a fatal house fire locally on Sunday afternoon where the tumble dryer caught fire although the recalled products are not definitely involved the tumble dryer involved has been removed for tests.
It reminds us of the danger these products pose.

They don't have an endless supply of engineers, they may of even taken temporary engineers on but as well as this issue they are dealing with day to day repairs...

Tens of thousands have been using these dryers for years and continue to use them without issue... They haven't been deemed as unusable people are told to be vigilant until the fix has been completed. People have a choice, part fitted or new machine... A new machine for £99 is a bargain for someone who has a unit that is years old , those who have a newer model can except a fix leaving them in exactly the same position as they thought they were in when they bought it.

Ermmm my friends newer model was 18 months old, and could not be modified. She got a new machine. As did I and mine is 6 years old.

    Totally agree!

Would you set the timer for the dryer to come on when you were out of the house? Mine has a timer but it doesn't mean i have ever used it...Having a timer doesn't mean you shouldn't be cautious.

Actually I forgot it had a timer until they took it away. I'd only had it 6 years!

Iirc it was reported several years ago about Indesit dishwashers, I got my first one nearly 20 years ago which lasted about 4 years before going up in a puff of smoke....I maybe stupidly got another which lasted about another 4 years which we scraped after the smell of smoke....next one Hotpoint...lasted 8 years, just gave up the ghost, New one 8 months old, Hotpoint no problems yet.
The murky world of naff components maybe?

I can't think why a timer is needed, I'm obviously missing something! My washing machine and dishwasher have them as well.... I can't think why timers are needed on them either?

Who on earth goes out of the house and leaves a tumble dryer running anyway?

Another comment just proving you have absolutely no idea what other peoples lives are like, and as such should probably stop trying to comment on them.

Many people will put the dryer on before going out to work, or out for the evening. A working family with two parents and three children will have numerous loads of washing, and could easily be in and out to evening events. Are they supposed to change their lifestyle just so someone can stay in with the dryer.

I will often put a washload on after work, then pop it in the dryer before going out to a meeting / pub / whatever in the evening. In fact, if you genuinely never go out before your dryer has finished I can only conclude that you rarely use your dryer, don't get out much, or both.

    People with day/night electricity tarrifs.

Or people who don't like the noise they make.
