Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall

Why are people so desperate with getting a new machine, your current machine has been doing the job you bought it for . The modification is needed to make the machine safer not to make it more efficient...
Hotpoint must be thinking it is better money wise for them to sell a new dryer at manufacturing cost than doing the repair.0 -
In my case it is 9 years old so this offer of a new dryer at £99 out of the blue is worth thinking about.

For someone with an older model a vastly reduced new dryer is a fantastic bargain especially as it has run for several years without an issue with this particular fault... I myself have had my 8 year old dryer modified recently and all internal parts replaced due to several issues all free of charge and am more that grateful, there are only a tiny amount of dryers that have actually been damaged due to the issue, the modification will fix an issue customers didn't even know about so completing the fix will leave them in exactly the same position they were in before, so why the greed of wanting a new dryer?
Some people I'm sure just think they are missing out and need to jump on a bandwagon..0 -
I phoned them earlier to say the replacement model was too deep and was there an alternative I could buy, was just told no & that I'd have to wait for the modification & then the bloke hung up on me!
Not impressed
Don't condone hanging up on people at all, but I saw this highlighted on the news today and checked my own machine which appears to be effected by the fault and registered my details with Hotpoint for the "modification".
I then came on here to see how long the process takes and what happens and although I haven't read every post, the few I've read suggest to me that at least some people are just being awkward !!!!!!s for the sake of it.
As I said I don't condone hanging up on customers, but the poor guy you spoke to is probably taking call after call of people whinging "BUT I DONT WANT A REPAIR I WANT A NEW ONE!!!" - he's probably absolutely stick of his life and lost the will to live.0 -
I've just had an email from them with an offer of a new machine reduced from a RRP of £299 to £99 including delivery, set up and take old one away.
As old one is about 30 months old, is this a good deal or should I just wait for the repair?0 -

If it's a better model maybe, but if you add the cost of the original plus the £99 is it still a good price?... You maybe better off just excepting the repair.0 -
They delivered my replacement dryer yesterday - looks identical to the previous one apart from the badge.
Delivery man unfortunately ripped a piece of lino off the floor in the process - but said that their insurance should cover it.0 -
I was passing Currys this morning and as I'm awaiting Hotpoint response of an offer to buy a replacement with less depth than the 8kg offered at £99 rather than repair my 7kg one.
Well they have no Hotpoint, Whirlpool, Creda, Indesit condenser dryers just Beko and White Knight so rather strange.0 -
These machines leak lint, hair and fluff between the drum and the electric motor/fan which blows air into the heater unit. When i opened the dryer up all the electric wires and the motor were covered in lint , in fact there was a bag full. If it started to burn inside the machine there is no way to put it out, so there safety warning to be there when the machine catches fire is a bit of a joke, because all you can do is dial 999. All these machines will wear and lint will get around the motor as i have seen the problem on mine which is now in the shed not been used. I think the higher management of Whirlpool have not seen the danger of this machine, or have and are telling people to stay with the machine, so when it catches fire you will be able to escape.0

Any images of the back of the £99 one? Its already huge by the sounds of it and I have pipe work at the back right side of were the tumble goes which would make it stick out even further0

They have those brands in my local Curry's. I saw them last week as I bought a new Hotpoint washing machine.
Like some of the others on here, I got a new replacement tumble dryer from Hotpoint in December to replace my faulty one, apparently they could not do a modification. I got a Whirlpool one, and it is really good, dries quicker than the Indesit they took away.0
