My local SPAR has just put an Apple pay sign on the door - then when you get to the till there is a printed sign apologising that they don't do contactless payments.

If you can be bothered, you could report them for having the sign up when they don't support contactless: https://www.apple.com/uk/support/apple-pay/feedback/

Don't like contactless? Why not phone your card issuer, tell them you won't be carrying out any contactless transactions. If they see any consider them to be fraudulent.

If you like them, and they're for you. Good luck.

WH Smiths take contactless payments (here) in Derby.

I'm not sure what was more criminal, mind. The fact they've got Cadbury Creme Eggs on sale already or the fact they were charging 79p each for them!

The worst experience of card fraud I've had was in Brazil about a year ago - I don't know how or where it was done (I didn't see anything untoward at any point) but someone managed to clone my credit card and get the PIN. They managed to withdraw about £750 worth of Brazilian currency before I noticed what was going on and got the card cancelled.

The bank reversed all the transactions without question, so no financial problem, although it was a bit of a pain having to call several times as the different transactions came to light.

But it goes to show that chip & PIN isn't as secure as some seem to think it is, and criminals can get a lot more money than they could from contactless. As posted above, there's much less incentive for criminals to use contactless - the main reason being that it can't be used to withdraw cash, and having to use it for purchases puts them at greater risk of being caught on CCTV or recognised. Do they really want that risk just to buy a few low-value items?
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Its not even bloody Christmas! Creme Eggs no way! Mmmm back on topic.
Just been to B&Q and no, they don't take contactless. I updated the original post. Pathetic for a huge shop like them. I always ask these days about contactless. If anything its raising awareness of the system and the checkout operators must be getting fed up of people asking if/why they don't take contactless.

i quite like stores that accept contactless to notch up a few pounds with TSB Plus contactless... but there's not real 'Name and Shame' to be done here. places that require my PIN..no problem.

As you might expect from me I don't like spending money. When I do have to reluctantly buy something and I go to pay, it really gets on my tits when I pull out my TSB card and find out the shop still doesn't accept contactless! Which is one of the reasons I started this thread.

Its all very well having this bonus feature on the TSB accounts but unless you are a high spender, I can't imagine anyone hitting the £100 limit a month, as its so difficult to find any shops which take it. If petrol stations took contactless it would be easy to fill up £30 at a time. But they don't, none I've found anyway,

There is just about nothing non-commercial about Android. The freebies are designed to catch the unexpecting.

Sounds like you are only against world domination because your open source model hasn't achieved world domination. And it never will, as it is fundamentally flawed.

Contrary to some political convictions, there is nothing free in this world. Eventually, a commercial element has to come into it because nobody can afford to work for nothing forever.

I'm a fan of neither. Google/Android is not without its faults and of course there is a commercial structure to it. If there wasn't it would fail. I don't want to get into a discussion about Apple vs Android but I'm simply stating that I've never liked itunes, the software restrictions on even connecting an iphone to a PC, the overpriced hardware, the non removeable batteries and servicing only that can be done for more extreme cost at an apple store. If android did not exist I'd have a windows phone. Apple PCs, ipods, ipads not my thing. Never will be,

My local BP garage and the one in Mickleover (also in Derby) take contactless payments.

The petrol station I work for won't be contactless any time soon because our EPOS providers don't have the terminals.

  • CONTACTLESS DEBIT CARDS/! SORRY FRIENDS, THE SKIMMERS CANNOT WAIT FOR THE LIMIT TO BE MOVED UP (FOR XMAS) TO £50.00 +EVEN £100.00. THEN INDIVIDUALS WILL BE SKIMMED PENNILESS! HOW? BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND THERE CAN BE 5 CONSECUTIVE CASH WITHDRAWALS, BEFORE THE CASH DISPENSER AUTOMATICALLY BLOCKS MORE "OUTS". I HAD 3X £30.O0 CASH TAKEN IN A "TWINKLING OF AN EYE". ALL FOR THE SAKE OF REMEMBERING A FOUR DIGIT PIN NUMBER? RUBBISH. NO FRIENDS, RETURN THE CARD TO YOUR BANK AND DAMAND IT BE EXCHANGED FOR A TRADITIONAL CARD, FOR YOU CANNOT "DRILL IT OUT". THE FINANCIAL PEOPLE HAVE DREAMT THIS ONE UP TO ENCOURAGE" IMPULSE BUYING" AND IT WORKS. AND THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO PROMOTE SUCH A" SECURITY WEAK SYSTEM"... ESPECIALLY,TO THE ELDERLY. IN A NUTSHELL: DROP THE CARD IN THE SHOP/STREET AND YOU MAY WELL BE 5x £50.00 POORER!.. "SIMPLE" AS THE MEIR-CAT WOULD SAY. A WEARY PENSIONER..
