Anyone using Vodafone fibre broadband?

  • rang BT twice last week as i'm out of contract next week, I've decided to ditch my TV package with them and the best deal they offered me just for BT infinity 2 was £23.50(£42.49 with line rental) for 3 months £30(£48.99 with line rental) there after. When i asked if this was a new contract, i was told it was for 2 years!!!...guess they have to pay for the football rights

    there are so many other options out there and vodaphone is the one i'll be trying, saving myself £20 a month
  • Vodafone isn't really abolishing line rental charges, it's simply combining the charge into its fibre pricing.
    'This is because broadband providers are under pressure from government and Ofcom to change advertised pricing so customers see a cost per month that includes line rental, so Vodafone is stealing a march on its rivals.'
    BT and other ISPs will be introducing broadband prices that include line rental shortly.
    Which is all a bit rubbish for those ISPs that will provide internet connectivity without requiring people to switch their line rental as well.

    I'm in pretty much the same position and have actually spent 30 minutes on the phone to Virgin just now. They offer me £38.00 per month which inc line rental, just for broadband but they have no intention at all of making it any lower.

    Same as the original poster, i'm being swayed by Vodafone's very cheap £28.00 offer for 78mbps speed.

    I've googled around a bit and the thing concerning me is the apparent lack of customer services and engineer services. There appeared to be a lot of negative comments about internet dropping out, losing it for a day or two and worryingly, the first connection in some cases, was not instant, some were waiting a week or two to be connected. Not.good.

    That said, i'm sure all companies have issues, but that last bit worried me.

    Are there any happy Vodafone Fibre Broadband customers out there that can help me/original poster and put minds at ease.

    Just wondered how it's going with Vodafone Broadband - still working out ok?

    Did you choose the 38 or 76mbps one and if so, are the speeds ok

    I went with the 38 package and have had no problems since the switch over. Speeds are as advertised with no outages.
  • That's great to hear - any issues with the initial connection? Was it done there and then whilst the engineer was there as i've heard of instances of people waiting two weeks. I'd assumed that the engineer would hang around whilst you test your connections to everything?

    I already had sky fibre so it was a transfer. The sky line went dead overnight and the vodafone line was up and running by late afternoon.

    When the sky fibre was installed the engineer came to the house first to split the master socket then went to the green cabinet to make the connection.

    After the work had been done at the cabinet he came back, connected the equipment, did some checks then off he went.

    I think most fibre connections are a now self install but my original sky one used the separate openreach modem which was delivered by the engineer.

    Now the modem/router are combined into one unit that is sent to you by the ISP.
  • Sorry, mije1983, but if you are an existing BT customer you can't get ANY deals on offer. Remember the bank advert: "Sorry, for new customers only", well that's BT. I've tried negotiating and the only reductions you can get are if you reduce your existing package options! I have I dropped from all day everyday calls to weekend only calls 'cos I don't use the phone all that much - although now that 0800/0845 numbers are disappearing fast and changing to 0345 (usually only manned on weekdays!) I am being forced to make more chargeable calls.
    I am on BT Infinity 1 + Calls which is £18.99 line rental & £22.20 Broadband & Calls (no way I want BT TV), so £28 from Vodafone sounds a much better deal. Although I am a regular user of the BT free Wi-Fi hotspots which is a bonus. As a pensioner I can't afford to make an annual lump sum.
    We need the moneysaving elves to do a proper comparison for us, I think. I can't find anywhere in the main site that seems to be covering what Vodafone are currently offering.
    And why should there be a charge for caller display on a BT landline (unless you sign up to an annual contract)??? I get that automatically for free on a mobile phone!!

    If they don't offer you anything, then surely you just switch? Why stay? It's so easy now, you don't even need to talk to BT, and downtime on switch day is minimal.

    Voda's comparison on their website is a joke. They are comparing apples and oranges really.

    There are providers much cheaper than BT, I just used BT to compare to Voda as that is what the OP was talking about. And if BT are cheaper than Voda, then most ISPs will be cheaper! The point is that just because Voda shout about 'no line rental', when you actually look at it, it's not really a great deal. Plus, if their CS for BB is as good as mobile, well........
