The popularity of the the vehicle new and used says more about the looks than any ones persons personal opinion.
What similar vehicle do you consider to be better looking? And to have a nicer interior?
A CR-V?
Just because it's sold well to a certain sector of the population doesn't mean it's good looking. Even if it does, why does it bother you so much that I disagree?
I don't consider any of the 'similar' vehicles to be good looking, and that's why I wouldn't buy a watered-down soft-roader. But I'm comfortable enough in my own mind not to be bothered that other people disagree with my opinion.0 -
So in which way are either of those 2 vehicles better than an Evoque?
Looks? No
Depreciation? No
Sales? No
I am a confirmed Subaru fan but seriously the XV? I have only seen one in London total.
The RAV4 fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
This is what I feel is wrong with the U.K.
A British Manufacturer (who owns the share is irrelevant) has produced a vehicle that they struggle to make fast enough and retains nearly 60% of its value over three years.
And some people still slag it off.
Why not be proud of what a relatively small company like JLR has produced.
It is also a proper off road er as has been proved time and time again.
Unlike an X1 that will likely struggle with a muddy field.

Looks are purely in the eye of the beholder. I actually think the Evoque looks ok. But if you are driving it doesn't really matter unless you are a narcissist and look at your shop window reflection a lot.
Depreciation maybe in % terms but not £'s
Ability any better for most needs I guess not.
Reliability and dealer experience well Toyota and Subaru would win hands down in most respects.
But each to their own.
Buy what you want and enjoy. Too many folks looking for reassurance as to what everyone else thinks.
As for having only seen one XV in London! Well that means nothing does it? How many egotistical Londoners really need a 4x4 and how many actually own or can even afford to lease what they drive?0 -

Why does that matter?
They have done what a few previous owners haven't managed - taken two ailing car manufacturers from the brink of collapse to an extremely profitable business and invested billions into British manufacturing. Over doubling the direct workforce (with more to follow, hopefully) and providing jobs for 1000's more in the supply chain and partner businesses.

(and yes, I am slightly biased as I work for them, earning a damn good wage for the type of work I do :beer:)

You do realise that I consider an Evoque to be as much of a Range Rover as any other model.
And why are you mentioning a Discovery?
As that is a Land Rover not a Range Rover branded vehicle.
Do you consider the Discovery Sport in the same league as the Discovery?0 -
And Land Rover and Range Rovers ( for those of you who think they're different) are a pile of dog dirt. Yes they look good but are pathetic in terms of reliability. The defender feels like a child built it, the Range Rovers are loaded with kit that will let you down. I've owned them, sold them and never gone back.0

Well considering Ford paid $5.8 billion for both and then sold them off to Tata for $2.3 something must have gone wrong.
Ford had run out of money to continue to invest and things were not looking good with redundancies, talk of plant closures and pay freezes.
If someone hadn't stepped in then, yes things could quite easily have gone belly up.
This was only a couple of years after MG Rover had crashes and a lot of the people I know who worked at JLR fully expected it to go the same way.0
