Well considering Ford paid $5.8 billion for both and then sold them off to Tata for $2.3 something must have gone wrong..

It had... Ford's business in the US. They had massive redundancy payouts to fund there and they needed money fast.

you seem very techy on that one and you have deliberately swerved Land Rover now being owned by Tata (Indian) the same company that own Tetley tea bags.
Looks are purely in the eye of the beholder. I actually think the Evoque looks ok. But if you are driving it doesn't really matter unless you are a narcissist and look at your shop window reflection a lot.

Depreciation maybe in % terms but not £'s

Ability any better for most needs I guess not.
Reliability and dealer experience well Toyota and Subaru would win hands down in most respects.

    But each to their own.
Buy what you want and enjoy. Too many folks looking for reassurance as to what everyone else thinks.
As for having only seen one XV in London! Well that means nothing does it? How many egotistical Londoners really need a 4x4 and how many actually own or can even afford to lease what they drive?

What possible difference does the ownership of the Company have to do with the product?

Or indeed who is responsible for engineering it?

Let's not forget that it is because of the investment by Tata that JLR has been able to invest in a new engine plant and develop the Ingenium engines.

Why would you buy a 4x4 vehicle that had zero off road ability?

Seems to me you are another one of those that hates everything made in the UK.

Even when the UK actually makes the best of something.

And you think that only seeing one XV in the biggest City in the Uk is irrelevant?

Well I haven't seen any in Scotland or Essex.

So either the buyers are keeping them under wraps or they haven't sold any.

Why not just celebrate a vehicle that is, currently, designed and made in the UK and is in high demand all over the world.

Such high demand that JLR is building plants elsewhere to satisfy demand outside of the EU.

Another reason for building them outside of the U.K. would probably be spurious import duty and taxes.

Get real. They are the same.

    No they aren't

They may be made by the same Company but a Range Rover product is different to drive than a Land Rover one.

I have driven back to back a last of old shape Sport in Autobiography spec and new shape Vogue SE and a Disco 4 HSE.

Despite having almost identical engines and gearboxes they all drove differently.

Yes even the Sport (old shape) which is a Disco underneath drives differently to a Disco 4.

By your logic a Jaguar is also the same.

Do you consider the Discovery Sport in the same league as the Discovery?

No the Discovery Sport is just a Freelander renamed.

    Pure marketing.

And has led to the situation where Land Rover Assist call the Disco 4 a full size Discovery.

And Land Rover and Range Rovers ( for those of you who think they're different) are a pile of dog dirt. Yes they look good but are pathetic in terms of reliability. The defender feels like a child built it, the Range Rovers are loaded with kit that will let you down. I've owned them, sold them and never gone back.

Ok, we get it you hate JLR products.

I wonder if you left or were you sacked?

    Which might explain the bitterness

You can't compare Range Rovers from even 6/7 yrs ago to the current ones.

And who knows where JLR would be now if they weren't held back by chronic underinvestment for so many years.

Which goes for most of the British car industry, shocking mismanagement and underinvestment.

Britain and British workers can built good relative cars, which else would Nissan ,Mini and Honda build them here?

You appear to be very biased in relation to Land Rover products. Sadly you neglected to mention the shocking build quality. I also don't see why you're so impressed with Autobiography vehicles. Why pay extra for someone else's tacky optional extras?

You really do seem eaten up with jealousy.

    Why?

So what is a real Range Rover?

Only a full fat Range? Or only a LWB full fat Range? Is the previous generation Sport a proper Range Rover? Only the current Range Rovers? So a four year old Range Rover Autobiography is no longer a "real" Range Rover? Despite costing £80/90k new and still being worth £30/40k?
What about a last of the old shape Sport? Cost £70k in Autobiography spec in 2013 and still worth £40k.

What about Fords? Is there something wrong, in your opinion, in owning a Fiesta or Focus rather than a Galaxy or Kuga.

    Would they be "cocks" ???

No jealously here would buy a a skoda a head of an Audi any day.

Both X1 and evoque seem like pointless cars and most the ones round here are driven buy !!!!!!. Would also include all range rovers and most bmws but X1, x5 and x6 seem the worst

    If you want a 4x4 get a 4x4

All of the fords listed serve a different purpose 4x4, small car, people carrier.
